2026 Games of the Week  -  Week 8

Each week this season AHSFHS.org will post games of the week provided by our forum friends better known as the "Barber Shop Gurus". Welcome TheMUBM, Kodyaufan2 and Sloth Nationzz as they analyze games of their choice and even give us a prediction for each contest.

Week 8 Picks
   Last Week:  4-0
   Season Total:  19-9

 Jackson-Olin (0-0) at
 Woodlawn (0-0)
at Lawson Field
Jackson-Olin   Woodlawn
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
5A-R5  Class/Region 4A-R5
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
49.8  Power Rating 49.6
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Woodlawn as a 2 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Jackson-Olin Mustangs defeated Woodlawn by a score of 20-18 in week 8 on the road  on Thu., Oct. 9 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Woodlawn and Jackson-Olin have met 28 times on the field.... Woodlawn holds a 16-11 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Jackson Olin comes in 2-4 and after being dismantled by the Thundering Herd of Parker 52 to 6. Their success came primarily on the shoulders of RB Derrion Lewis. Their rush defense was unable to put up much of an effort in the loss, but after all, it is Parker.

Woodlawn enters the contest at 1-5 and off a bye week. The Colonels are averaging just 16 points per game. WR Cornealius Hudson is a guy who can make defenders miss in the open field.

Both teams have had a rough go at it so far, however with the crazyness at the bottom of this region (Mortimer Jordan knocking off Minor) both teams still have a shot at a playoff position making this game huge. Both teams have struggled this year to consistently score points, often having drives stall due to mental mistakes or turnovers. Whoever makes the fewest mental errors will win this game. It's a coin toss but I like Jackson-Olin by a hair.

Prediction:  Jackson Olin 30 Woodlawn 24

 Tanner (0-0) at
 Decatur Heritage Christian (0-0)
at Rebels Stadium, West Morgan
Tanner   Decatur Heritage
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
2A-R7  Class/Region A-R4
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
31.1  Power Rating 16.1
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Tanner as a 13 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Tanner Rattlers defeated Decatur Heritage Christian by a score of 46-29 in week 8 on the road  on Thu., Oct. 9 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Decatur Heritage Christian and Tanner have met 2 times on the field.... The teams have both won 1 game.

Comments:    The Rattlers from Tanner stand at 2-5 but are coming off a blowout over lowly Tharptown 63 to 6. The previous two games saw a win over Belgreen and a surprisingly competitive loss 21 to 18 to Clements. WR/CB Matt Fletcher hauled in 3 TD passes in the effort.

Decatur Heritage knew losing Coach Stover and multiple big time transfers were going to hurt but this year has been full of pain. The Eagles set at 1-5 and have given up more than 56 points in 4 of their 5 losses this season. Luke Wickwire the 8th grade QB shows a lot of pocket presence and awareness, really excited to see this kid mature, but right now they just have a long way to go.

Another matchup of two teams struggling mightily but still alive for the playoffs. In fact, in a 6 team region with Tharptown, this will almost certainly decide the 4th playoff spot. I've seen DHCA put up some points against the likes of Sheffield but they really haven't stopped anyone, even allowing Tharptown 26. Tanner has a few kids with experience who can be game changers, DCHA isn't there yet.

Prediction:  Tanner 53 DHCA 28

 Fairview (0-0) at
 Priceville (0-0)
at Bulldog Stadium
Fairview   Priceville
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
4A-R8  Class/Region 4A-R7
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
74.6  Power Rating 69.8
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Fairview as a 3 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Fairview Aggies defeated Priceville by a score of 28-9 in week 8 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 10 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Priceville and Fairview have met 10 times on the field.... Fairview holds a 8-2 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Fairview comes in undefeated and ranked 3rd (last poll released to this date) and having just overcome the Russellville Golden Tigers 35 to 28. Jake Harper put in the work with 164 yards on 25 carries and rushing for 3 TD's.

Priceville enters with 1 loss and 5 wins. Losing a heartbreaker to 4A power West Morgan 8 to 7 earlier this season. Sheldon Graham rushed for two TD's in the win.

Fairview is going for their second straight region title. Priceville is trying to keep their chances alive for their first 5A region title. Fairview is very good at grinding out yards on the ground and breaking a defense's will but the Bulldogs have maybe the best defense the Aggies have faced. I am went back and forth but I can't see Priceville losing two tough games at home this season.

Prediction:  Priceville 21 Fairview 17

 Rogers (0-0) at
 Colbert Heights (0-0)
at Amos Mitchell Stadium
Rogers   Colbert Heights
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
3A-R7  Class/Region 3A-R7
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
40.9  Power Rating 38.8
AHSFHS Power Ratings have the teams as even.

Last Meeting:   The Rogers Pirates defeated Colbert Heights by a score of 56-28 in week 8 at Home  on Fri., Oct. 10 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Colbert Heights and Rogers have met 34 times on the field.... Rogers holds a 18-16 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Colbert Heights enters the game 5-2 but on a 2 game losing streak, most recently losing to Colbert County 32 to 8. The Wildcats were unable to get an offensive touchdown against the Indians. Big FB Gavin Caldwell has rushed for 10 TDs this season.

Rogers comes in 3-3 and just took a spanking at the hands of Mars Hill. Of course Mars Hill would do that to about 98% of the teams in 3A and heck 4A for that matter. The Pirates do have a second region loss that one to the aforementioned Colbert County Indians on a last second touchdown pass.

I had a couple of folks from up on Colbert Mountain tell me before the season started that they thought this year could be special but I didn't see it. Lo and behold the Wildcats started out 5-0, but now with a backloaded schedule find themselves 5-2 with Rogers, Mars Hill and Lauderdale County left to play. If this is, in fact, going to be a special season, they will need to pull off some wins and Mars Hill is highly unlikely so this game and the LCHS game will be crucial.

I think they matchup better with the Pirates than they did the Indians last week, so I wouldn't too informed by that score. But ultimately Rogers has a pretty solid defense themselves and RB Nic Grigsby has been a very reliable back.

Prediction:  Rogers 37 Colbert Heights 23

 Leroy (0-0) at

1A-R1  Class/Region 1A-R1

49.2  Power Rating 42.0
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Leroy as a 5 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Leroy Bears defeated Southern Choctaw by a score of 28-12 in week 8 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 10 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Southern Choctaw and Leroy have met 64 times on the field.... Leroy holds a 35-28 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: There's a lot of history between both of these programs. This is the 63rd meeting all-time in a tight series between two schools with a combined 10 state championships.

Southern Choctaw is a team that I think has flown under the radar under the last couple of weeks. There's a lot of history with this program, but it's been nearly a decade since we've seen them have much success. However, the Indians find themselves at 6-0 this season and the 2nd-best scoring defense in Class 1A, allowing just 6 points per game. They've allowed double digits just once, giving up 14 to a vastly-improved McIntosh team. Their schedule hasn't been great-they do have a couple solid wins-but the road is about to get much tougher as they finish the region play with Leroy, Millry, and Sweet Water.

The last several seasons, it was stifling defense that had been the biggest strength for Leroy. Their defense is still decent this season, but it doesn't appear to be the immovable object from years' past. But when you score as much as the Bears have this season, you don't necessarily need an elite defense. Leroy ranks 4th in Class 1A in scoring offense, averaging 47.3 points per game and scoring 40+ in every contest. The Bears have yet to really be tested this season, so Southern Choctaw could be the best team they've faced.

I came in thinking I was going to pick Leroy to win this one comfortably, but I'm honestly not so sure now. I still can't pick against Leroy, but I think Southern Choctaw will make some noise in the playoffs. I'm especially interested to see which side prevails in the matchup between the Leroy Offense vs the Southern Choctaw Defense.

Prediction:  Leroy 30, Southern Choctaw 20

 Good Hope (0-0) at
 Hamilton (0-0)
at Joe Sargent Stadium
Good Hope   Hamilton
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
4A-R8  Class/Region 4A-R7
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
70.0  Power Rating 65.4
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Good Hope as a 3 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Hamilton Aggies defeated Good Hope by a score of 28-21 in week 8 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 10 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Hamilton and Good Hope have met 8 times on the field.... Hamilton holds a 6-2 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: After last week's chaos in Class 4A, this could quite possibly be a ranked matchup next week between two undefeated teams. In all likelihood it will be for the Region 5 championship, but Fayette County is also undefeated in region play and could be a factor down the stretch, so winning this one is even more crucial to guarantee home field in the 1st Round of the playoffs.

Hamilton is one of the winningest programs in state history to have never won a state championship, but they haven't had much success in the past decade. Their last playoff win came back in 2015. This is their best team in many years, and possibly their best since they finished as state runner-up in 2010. The Aggies are 2nd in Class 4A in scoring offense at 47.4 points per game, and they've scored at least 41 points in every game while averaging well over 400 yards per game. Junior RB Eli Harris averages over 100 yards per game, with 12 TDs through their first six games, while Junior QB Mason Holloway has thrown for over 1,200 yards and more than 17 touchdowns.

Good Hope has become known for their stellar defenses over the past couple of years, and this is one of their best yet. The Raiders are allowing just 4.5 points per game and just 27 total points through six games, 1st in Class 4A and 5th best regardless of class. They allowed a season high in points last week to Curry... 8 points. Granted, they've faced just two offenses averaging more than 20 points per game, and only one over 30. Unlike last year, however, the Raiders have a high-scoring offense to go with their defense. Their lowest scoring output of the season is 34, and they've scored 40+ in every other game.

This is almost the exact scenario we had last season with this matchup. Hamilton has the elite offense, and Good Hope has the elite defense. Last year, Good Hope prevailed, holding Hamilton to just 6 points. That alone makes it difficult for me to see the result being significantly different this year.

Prediction:  Good Hope 35, Hamilton 21

 North Jackson (0-0) at
 Plainview (0-0)
at Plainview Stadium
North Jackson   Plainview
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
3A-R8  Class/Region 3A-R8
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
62.1  Power Rating 62.6
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Plainview as a 2 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Plainview Bears defeated North Jackson by a score of 35-24 in week 8 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 10 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Plainview and North Jackson have met 8 times on the field.... The teams have both won 4 games.

Comments:    Comments: I'm not sure how well Region 8 will fare in the playoffs against the other North regions this year in Class 4A, but at least within region play, the top of the region is extremely competitive for the second year in a row. A win would essentially clinch home field in the 1st Round for Plainview, while North Jackson needs a win to keep their chances at a second straight region title alive.

Last year, Plainview missed the playoffs with a 5-5 record, although all their losses were fairly close, and they even knocked off North Jackson, the eventual region champs. This year, though, they've won every game, and the only one that was particularly close was their opener against Westminster Christian. They've been absolutely thrashing most of their opponents, including impressive 54-7 and 61-30 wins over Randolph and Pisgah. They have one of the top offenses in Class 4A, scoring over 45 points per game. They've got a lot of size and have been able to physically dominate every team they've played so far.

North Jackson lost a heartbreaker last week to Madison Academy in a 57-56 shootout that they led most of the way. They're averaging over 50 points per game in region play and have scored at least 40 in each of those contests. They only throw the ball a handful of times a game, but their rushing attack is fantastic. Junior RB Nick Price, Jr is one of the top backs in 4A, averaging 200 rushing yards per game with over 13 TDs. When they do throw the ball, more than half of their passes go to Junior WR Haven Massengile, and the majority of the rest go to Senior Kadyn Pace.

I think the top three teams in this region are all pretty equal, so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see a 3-way tie atop the region standings at the end of the regular season. However, I think I trust Plainview's defense more than North Jackson's, so I'll take Dale Pruitt's squad.

Prediction:  Plainview 54, North Jackson 46

 Hueytown (0-0) at
 McAdory (0-0)
at McAdory Stadium
Hueytown   McAdory
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
5A-R3  Class/Region 5A-R3
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
75.7  Power Rating 74.4
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Hueytown as a 1 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Hueytown Golden Gophers defeated McAdory by a score of 43-38 in week 8 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 10 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   McAdory and Hueytown have met 44 times on the field.... Hueytown holds a 30-13 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: A region championship could be on the line in this one as McAdory looks to avenge their loss to the Golden Gophers last season. This game decided Region 4 last season, but each team will still have some work to do with Bessemer City and Central Tuscaloosa not far behind.

McAdory is coming off their closest game of the year, a 21-20 victory over Central Tuscaloosa, and they didn't lead in that one until the 4th quarter. They had a bye week prior to that one, so it's possible they got caught looking ahead to Hueytown. The Yellow Jackets love running the ball, averaging nearly 300 yards per game on the ground. The majority of the carries are split evenly between Senior Running Backs Derrion Davis and Kawann Johnson. Those two have over 1,000 yards and 11 TDs combined. A win in this one would put McAdory on track to win their first region championship since 2015, although they'd still need to get past Bessemer City in their region finale.

Hueytown's 3-3 record may not look inspiring, but look at who they've lost to. They got dominated in their opener by Clay-Chalkville, a team who not even Thompson can beat. Their other two losses were in overtime to Mountain Brook, and by one point to 7A Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, who is going to be a playoff team from the brutal Class 7A Region 3. They also came into this matchup with the same 3-3 record a year ago, then went on to make a run to the Quarterfinals, so don't be fooled by their record. Running back Anthony Robinson had a big game last week with 27 carries for 140 yards and 3 TDs in a ten point win over Northridge. Their special teams also made a huge impact with two kickoff return touchdowns.

It's tough to really gauge how these teams stack up to the rest of Class 6A given how competitive their region is, although it's not exactly the strongest of regions. I do think these teams match up pretty evenly, with really good offenses and average defenses. McAdory's performance last week does have me a bit concerned, while Hueytown has really shown up the past few weeks.

Prediction:  Hueytown 34, McAdory 27

6A-R1  Class/Region 6A-R1

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Mary Montgomery as a 1 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Mary Montgomery Vikings defeated Fairhope by a score of 28-21 in week 8 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 10 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Fairhope and Mary Montgomery have met 40 times on the field.... Fairhope holds a 24-15 edge in the games played.

Comments:    In a game that I do not think many had marked as a close game back in July, is potentially for a region title now in October. Mary Montgomery has long been the favorite this win, however the Pirates have something to say about that.

Mary Montgomery has been playing phenomenal all season long. Fairhope fell early in their big time rivalry game against Spanish Fort, but since then have been solid as can be. Their big win came over Theodore which many expected them to lose. Mary Montgomery has already defeated teams like Daphne, Gulf Shores and Pace out of Florida.

My main question or concern with Fairhope is are they ready to take the next step? They play Mary Montgomery and Daphne in back to back weeks. Has the competition been up to par? The Theodore win was great but the rest of the schedule hasn't been quite difficult. That is why I am picking a Viking victory. I think they have played a tougher schedule and will reflect a battle tested team.

Prediction:  Mary Montgomery 31 Fairhope 21

4A-R6  Class/Region 4A-R6

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Moody as a 5 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Moody Blue Devils defeated Leeds by a score of 25-22 in week 8 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 10 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Leeds and Moody have met 19 times on the field.... Leeds holds a 14-5 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Well after the crazy double overtime loss to St Clair County this game has lost a little of its luster, however this is a big time rivalry in this part of the state. Moody has been great against fellow 5A competition but when played up in size, has not gone well for the Blue Devils.

Leeds might have been looking ahead? I am not sure they have not played terribly great in the last few weeks. However they are still the Leeds Green Wave and know how to give any school a tough game.

Moody, when playing in 5A, has done well, and I do believe they will win this football game, but not without a good effort from Leeds.

Prediction:  Moody 28 Leeds 18

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Wicksburg as a 9 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Wicksburg Panthers defeated Alabama Christian by a score of 28-23 in week 8 at Home  on Fri., Oct. 10 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Alabama Christian and Wicksburg have met 4 times on the field.... Alabama Christian holds a 3-1 edge in the games played.

Comments:    This game has the potential to be very strange. Wicksburg has played well at times, and not so much at others. Same goes with Alabama Christian. Wicksburg is favored in this game, and they should be.

But it depends I mean they could be looking ahead to next week when they play Trinity in what is all but almost certainly a game that will decide whos hosting a home playoff game. Alabama Christian can throw themselves right back into the hunt with a victory and try to make it back into the playoffs.

I think this game will be closer than people expect, but I expect a Wicksburg victory.

Prediction:  Wicksburg 42 Alabama Christian 34

0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
AA-R1  Class/Region 4A-R2
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
66.3  Power Rating 58.9
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Catholic Montgomery as a 5 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Catholic Montgomery Knights defeated Headland by a score of 51-7 in week 8 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 10 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Headland and Catholic Montgomery have met 6 times on the field.... Catholic Montgomery holds a 5-1 edge in the games played.

Comments:    What a silent season it has been for the Knights. After going 15-0 and winning however many odd games in a row, the Knights fell to a 1-3 record. However since then they have quietly been improving week by week.

This is the Knights best chance to make a run for a home playoff game, and it starts against a good Headland squad. Headland and Catholic had some great battles back in the late 2010's. The Knights are trying to make a push for their seventh straight region title, which seems unlikely but a win over the Rams could make things interesting! It is hard to know how good Headland is, they lost the games I expected them to lose, and won the games I expected them to.

I just think Catholic is rolling, and will be a tough team to face come playoff time.

Prediction:  Catholic Montgomery 38 Headland 27

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Murphy and Theodore battled through seven overtimes before the Panthers came out on top 33-26 in 1979.
