AHSFHS Power Ratings have Fort Payne as a 10 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Fort Payne Wildcats defeated Buckhorn by a score of 45-22 in week 7 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Fort Payne and Buckhorn have met 12 times on the field.... Fort Payne holds a 10-2 edge in the games played.

Comments:    The boys from New Market come into the game 4-1 and off a 43-0 trouncing of Lee-Huntsville. The offense definitely goes through sophomore Parker Turley, whether it's slinging the ball downfield of picking up chunks of yardage through scrambling but the defense is the key here as the Bucks are giving up just under 14 ppg.

Fort Payne is also 4-1 and riding a three game win streak after knocking off Mortimer Jordan 34 to 14 last week. The Wildcats have had an opportunistic defense this year. For instance in the Mae Jemison game they had two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

I assume this will be two of the teams in the playoffs from this region. Gadsden City who owns a win over Buckhorn, has set themselves up nicely but both of these teams are still very much alive for a homefield, if not a region title. I think Turley is a good young QB but I don't like a young QB against a feisty defense like the Wildcats.

Prediction:  Fort Payne 28 Buckhorn 10

 Lauderdale County (0-0) at
 Clements (0-0)

Lauderdale County   Clements
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
3A-R7  Class/Region 3A-R7
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
41.5  Power Rating 28.9
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Lauderdale County as a 11 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Lauderdale County Tigers defeated Clements by a score of 40-7 in week 7 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Clements and Lauderdale County have met 32 times on the field.... Lauderdale County holds a 28-4 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Lauderdale County comes in 3-3 and on a 3 game losing streak. While the competition has been better the last three games (Colbert Co, Mars Hill, Brooks) the offensive production has dropped significantly. QB Curtis Ritter has been banged up and that's definitely slowed Jeff Mason's offense.

The Colts are also 3-3 and winners of 2 straight. RB Jake Fleming (6'3'' 225) rumbled his way for 101 punishing yards and a TD while also making 13 tackles on defense in the win. But the Colts are giving up over 30 ppg.

A game that most probably thought was a gimme early in the year for LCHS now becomes a very scary one. An improved Clements team coupled with the injuries the Tigers have faced puts them in an unenviable position. We can generally pencil in the Tigers for a playoff spot but they'll need to right the ship quick. I think the skill players like Hill, Watkins and Green, even if not fully healthy, will have just enough to stop the losing streak.

Prediction:  LCHS 33 Clements 21

 Leeds (0-0) at
 St. Clair County (0-0)

4A-R6  Class/Region 5A-R6
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
67.7  Power Rating 67.4
AHSFHS Power Ratings have St. Clair County as a 2 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The St. Clair County Fighting Saints defeated Leeds by a score of 50-49 in week 7 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   St. Clair County and Leeds have met 29 times on the field.... Leeds holds a 22-7 edge in the games played.

Comments:    The Greenwave bounced back from the thrashing from Jacksonville to take a 29 to 28 win over Briarwood last week, a game that saw them trail early 20 to 7. Sam Lollar once again had a big night in the comeback, throwing for 290 yards on 21 of 28 passing. Other than the Jacksonville game, the offense has been on fire average just over 32 ppg.

The Fighting Saints come in 4-1 and are averaging just over 38 ppg even with the 55-0 loss to Moody on the resume. Much like Leeds, SCCHS likes to have Landyn Smith throw the ball around and he has many targets to get it to.

I expect this to be a shootout. This game should play into playoff positioning with Moody and Jacksonville also having a say. On paper this is about as much of a tossup as you can get. Give me St Clair County at home avenging the loss last year.

Prediction:  SCCHS 55 Leeds 42

 Weaver (0-0) at
 Glencoe (0-0)

0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
3A-R4  Class/Region 3A-R6

25.5  Power Rating 41.5
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Glencoe as a 18 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Glencoe Yellow Jackets defeated Weaver by a score of 56-19 in week 7 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Glencoe and Weaver have met 40 times on the field.... Glencoe holds a 23-17 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Weaver comes in 1-4 and hoping to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. They're coming off 31-20 loss to 1A Winterboro last Friday. Francisco Nira had two touchdown catches in the losing effort. While only amassing the one victory, the Bearcats have been competitive the last three games, they just need some more breaks to go their way.

Glencoe comes in 3-2 and a likely playoff participant barring a collapse. They're coming off a big 49 to 21 manhandling by Hokes Bluff. A lot of people thought Glencoe had a real shot to end their long losing streak against Eagles but came up short in a big way. Sophomore Alex Hudson Jr rushed for 145 yards in the losing effort.

This game is all dependent on how Glencoe responds coming off that loss. If they still have in their psyche they could find themselves in a battle with a scrappy Weaver team. If they put it behind them and move forward accordingly, it could be ugly.

Prediction:  Glencoe 49 Weaver 20

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Ariton as a 6 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Ariton Purple Cats defeated Providence Christian by a score of 28-15 in week 7 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Ariton and Providence Christian have met 12 times on the field.... Providence Christian holds a 8-4 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: There's a lot on the line in this one. Ariton comes in with a perfect record, and the winner of this one puts themselves in prime position for a region championship, something Providence Christian has never done.

Ariton has become a pretty steady 2A program over the past decade, making the playoffs every year since 2015, with three Quarterfinal appearances in that time. They've started this season 4-0 and could put themselves in position for a region championship with a win in this one. Quarterback Addison Senn has 9 total touchdowns on the season, three passing and six rushing. He is also one of three players on the Ariton offense with at least 5 rushing touchdowns on the season. They've got Cottonwood next week, but if they can get past these next two weeks, an undefeated season seems likely for the Purple Tigers.

Providence Christian is normally a pretty run-heavy team, but in their closest win this season against Cottonwood, the Eagles actually found success through the air, with Quarterback Craig Pittman throwing for nearly 200 yards. That's actually been a pretty common theme this year for their offense. Even though they typically only throw the ball at most 10 times a game, they tend to get some explosive plays through the air. Pittman is a dual threat guy who has both passed and rushed for over 400 yards on the season. Their defense is pretty stout as well, allowing just under 20 ppg.

This part of the state doesn't always get a ton of coverage, so this matchup might fly under the radar in a pretty loaded slate of games this week. Providence Christian won this one comfortably last year, but I like the Tigers to keep their undefeated season alive.

Prediction:  Ariton 32, Providence Christian 20

 T.R. Miller (0-0)

A-R1  Class/Region 3A-R1
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
53.2  Power Rating 54.1
AHSFHS Power Ratings have T.R. Miller as a 3 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Cottage Hill Christian Warriors defeated T.R. Miller by a score of 28-14 in week 7 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   T.R. Miller and Cottage Hill Christian have met 12 times on the field.... T.R. Miller holds a 11-1 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: It's a three-horse race atop Class 3A Region 1 between these two teams and Bayside Academy, and we get the first matchup between two of those teams this week as the undefeated Cottage Hill Christian Warriors travel to Brewton, Alabama to take on T.R. Miller, who are coming off their first loss of the season.

T.R. Miller seems to be attacking mostly through the air this season, which is different from what I remember of them in the past. They appear to have two Quarterbacks who have gotten significant playing time this year. I'm not sure if that's by design or due to an injury at some point, but Sophomore Cole McMillan appear to be the starter currently. Four different players have rushed for over 100 yards on the year, but as a team they average just 4 yards per carry, which is fine, but not what you expect from a team as physical as T.R. Miller. But as usual, they lack for nothing defensively, giving up just 16.8 ppg and holding four of their six opponents to 20 points or fewer. With that said, they were thoroughly outplayed in their last game by UMS-Wright with their new Spread offense, so that could be something to watch against a Cottage Hill team with an elite QB.

Cottage Hill was defeatedly handily by T.R. Miller last season, but this is certainly not the same Cottage Hill squad from a year ago. A year ago the Warriors were sitting at 1-4 and had just won their first game of the season over 1A Choctaw County. This year they come in 5-0 and have shut out their last two opponents. Sophomore QB Shamar Toodle has thrown for 1100 yards and 11 TDs with two more rushing scores, and he is already receiving scholarship offers from Power 4 schools. Senior Shadarius Toodle is a 4-Star Linebacker and a Georgia commit on the defensive side. Another senior, Caleb Metzner, has accumulated 11 sacks already through 5 games. It is worth noting that the Warriors are 0-11 all-time against T.R. Miller.

Our computers have T.R. Miller as a slight favorite in this one, and that's about where I'm at as well. Cottage Hill has the talent to ask some questions of T.R. Miller on both sides of the ball, so I expect a tight game. However, it's hard to pick a team that's 0-11 against a particular opponent.

Prediction:  T.R. Miller 22, Cottage Hill 20

 St. Michael (0-0) at

AA-R1  Class/Region 3A-R1

70.5  Power Rating 77.3
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Jackson as a 9 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Jackson Aggies defeated St. Michael by a score of 44-23 in the semi-finals of the playoffs at Home  on Fri., Nov. 28 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Jackson and St. Michael have met 8 times on the field.... Jackson holds a 6-2 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: Get ready for some fireworks in this one. In a matchup that has been circled since before the season ever started, we've got the top two teams in Class 4A squaring off in what will be one of the most-anticipated games of the regular season in any classification.

I don't think this Jackson even requires any introduction at this point. They are likely the most talented team of any classification in the state, nearly knocking of 6A championship contender Saraland to open the season without their best player in 5-Star RB EJ Crowell. In the five games since, Crowell has amassed 854 yards on the ground, an average of 170 per game, along with 11 TDs. They also have a 4-Star QB in Landon Duckworth who at one time was committed to South Carolina. Jamarrion Gordon is a 4-Star Safety for them, but is also one of their top receivers. Their defense allowed just 17 points to Saraland, and has allowed just 28 total points in the five games since, but St. Michael will be by far the best offense they've faced since that opener.

Coach Philip Rivers' St. Michael squad lost just two games last season-both to Jackson-but neither of them were particularly close. This is a team with a ton of talent, especially on offense where they are led by Gunner Rivers. The Junior QB will likely have his pick of colleges next year when he will be part of a loaded in-state QB Class. Rivers' top target is 3-Star WR Brody Jones, a South Alabama commit with 28 catches for 362 yards and 7 TDs. They also have one of the top RBs in Class 4A in Senior Noah Moss. The core of this offense has been together for multiple years at this point, so it's no surprise they're averaging nearly 50 points a game. The question mark for this team, as it was last season, will be the defense.

If you really want to understand the gap between Jackson and the rest of 4A, just look at the scores from this matchup last season, 55-16 and 49-28. Jackson should win this game, and fairly comfortably. The only hesitation I might have is this-St. Michael is coming off a bye week. With a talented and experienced QB like Gunner Rivers, that bye week might have allowed them to enter this game with a few new tricks up their sleeves. Jackson got caught napping early against Mobile Christian a couple weeks ago. They won't be able to do that this week.

Prediction:  Jackson 55, St. Michael 28

 Thompson (0-0) at
 Hewitt-Trussville (0-0)

Thompson   Hewitt-Trussville
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
6A-R3  Class/Region 6A-R3
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
98.2  Power Rating 95.1
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Thompson as a 1 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Thompson Warriors defeated Hewitt-Trussville by a score of 34-12 in week 7 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Hewitt-Trussville and Thompson have met 19 times on the field.... Thompson holds a 13-6 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: Well this matchup seems to have been building all season. We all know the Thompson is the standard in Class 7A, but Hewitt-Trussville has been one of the most impressive teams in the state all season. Something has to give.

Hewitt-Trussville's success this year isn't necessarily surprising, but the way they've been doing it probably is. To start, the emergence of Freshman QB Jack Floyd has been a revelation for this offense with 7 passing TDs and is the leading rusher for the Huskies with 483 yards and 5 more TDs. They also have a 3-Star RB in Kentucky commit Delvecchio Alston II. But defense is the side of the ball that has been truly dominant this season. This unit leads Class 7A by allowing just 6.8 points per game. They've only allowed double digit points twice, allowing 14 points to both Vestavia Hills and Hoover. They cause a lot of negative plays, averaging over 4 sacks per game as a team and over 8 TFLs per game.

Thompson is another team that needs no introduction at this point. We know who they are—they're a defensive juggernaut with an elite young Quarterback in Junior Trent Seaborn. The Warriors sit at just 4-2 on the season, but those losses came to Clay-Chalkville last week and an early-season OT loss to Georgia power Grayson. They allowed 24 and 28 points in those two contests, but they've given up a total of 9 points across their four other games. Seaborn is having the best season of his career, already sitting at over 1,500 yards and 16 passing TDs this season. The Warriors boast the 2nd best scoring defense in 7A, allowing just over 10 points per game and averaging over 12 TFLs per game, although they've only got 9 sacks on the season as a team.

This will likely be a low-scoring game, but it will definitely be a physical game. Thompson QB Trent Seaborn was once the young, inexperienced QB, and we watched him deliver time after time. I think that will give his team the advantage over another young QB in Hewitt's Jack Floyd.

Prediction:  Thompson 14, Hewitt-Trussville 11

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Oxford as a 4 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Oxford Yellow Jackets defeated Pell City by a score of 36-31 in week 7 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Pell City and Oxford have met 60 times on the field.... Oxford holds a 41-18 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Well this is a series that Oxford has dominated historically. Which is not surprising considering that Oxford has been a much better program than Pell City all time. In fact, they have played every year since 1986, and Pell City last defeated Oxford in 2012.

Pell City has been playing excellent so far this season outside of their loss to Clay Chalkville. 2012 was also the last time Pell City hosted a playoff game. Oxford needs to win this game if they want to continue to fight for a home playoff game.

I think Oxford's experience will help carry them to making this game close, but I do think that Pell City wins against Oxford for the first time since 2012.

Give me the Panthers to continue a great season!

Prediction:  Pell City 23 Oxford 20

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Handley as a 8 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Handley Tigers defeated Bullock County by a score of 33-7 in week 7 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Handley and Bullock County have met 3 times on the field.... Handley holds a 3-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Well this game will be likely for the region championship. Which with Handley you can expect mostly every year. Bullock County, well not so much. Handley has been running the football just like you expect with the I formation and some power I.

Bullock County has been running single wing and it has been working very well for the Hornets as they are 5-0 for the first time since 1972. Here is where my concerns are.

Handley can they run the ball on a tough Hornet defense. Can Bullock County get their biggest win in the last 50 years? It is on the road in Roanoke, which is a tough place to play. Cinderella stories are awesome, we love them. However, how many of those cinderellas actually win in the end? Exactly. This is another case of that, and the Tigers are here to crash the party, and they will.

    Give me Handley to win.

Prediction:  Handley 28 Bullock County 19

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Thomasville as a 8 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Thorsby Rebels defeated Thomasville by a score of 36-21 in week 7 on the road  on Fri., Oct. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Thomasville and Thorsby have met 2 times on the field.... The teams have both won 1 game.

Comments:    Thomasville after a slow start to the year has basically vanished from anyone talking about the Tigers. Just what they want, they are out of the spotlight. Thorsby meanwhile is starting to pick up some momentum from their fanbase and people following Class 3A.

Thomasville is such a historically good program, and Thorsby historically has not been quite the level of Thomasville. However we are in the present, and Thorsby is undefeated and has looked very good to start the year. Thomasville with a win likely will host a first round playoff game.

I think while Thorsby has had a great season, their level of competition has been questionable and Thomasville is a better, more battle tested team.

Prediction:  Thomasville 41 Thorsby 28

0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
2A-R4  Class/Region 2A-R4

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Reeltown as a 2 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Lanett Panthers defeated Reeltown by a score of 35-19 in the semi-finals of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 28 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Lanett and Reeltown have met 15 times on the field.... Reeltown holds a 8-7 edge in the games played.

Comments:    A popular upset pick in Class 2A this week. This game will be for the region title most likely. Lanett has been a pleasant surprise this season.

Reeltown has been taking care of business like we expect them to. After their early loss to TR Miller it has been just another day at the office.

Lanett has lost two games, to Bullock County where they lead the entire game, and Handley which they lost by two points. So neither was a bad loss. Lanett is going to be a tough team to beat this season. Reeltown is the defending 2A champions, and have that championship DNA.

I think it will be close, but I do expect a Rebel victory because their QB is going to win them this game. It will be high scoring, but a Reeltown win.

Prediction:  Reeltown 42 Lanett 34

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Etowah defeated Oxford 69-63 in 1991 to set a state record for most points scored by both teams in a playoff game.
