Series:
John Carroll and St. Michael have met 2 times on the field....
St. Michael holds a 2-0 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: The St. Michael comes Cardinal come into the game off a convincing win against a very good 3A Bayside Academy 41-10. Gunner Rivers threw for 240 yards and 5 TD's (to 5 different receivers) and Noah Moss added 107 yards on the ground on 13 carries. |
John Carroll comes in off a tough outing against Homewood losing 51 to 7. The lone bright spot being a touchdown pass hauled in by Jackson Rankin. |
A lot of people think St. Michael may be the one team that can challenge Jackson in 4A. I am not so sure that is true, but they are very talented. John Carroll is a lot better than their loss Friday showed. They were stepping up a class against a very good Homewood team. This game was a 1-point win for St. Michael last year, I expect it to be competitive again this year. |

Series:
Florence and Muscle Shoals have met 14 times on the field....
Muscle Shoals holds a 10-4 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Muscle Shoals comes in having easily dispatched a good Gadsden City team 24 to 6 in the opener. The Trojans defense held the Titans in check all night, allowing just 38 total yards up until the final GCHS drive. Ezra Fowler hauled in 8 catches for 76 yards and a TD, he also ran for a TD. |
Florence comes into the Signing River Rivalry off a disappointing 35 to 7 spanking at the hands of Hillcrest Tuscaloosa. The Falcons were only able to muster a measly 78 yards of offense. However, they did play much better in the second half defensively which I am sure Coach Morrison will build on going forward. |
The Trojans have won 10 straight (on the field) in this yearly showdown. Florence will have to find something this week in practice because coming off a 78-yard performance and now facing a very stout Muscle Shoals defense is not a recipe for success. |

Series:
Westminster Christian and Plainview have met 2 times on the field....
The teams have both won 1 game.
|
|
| Comments: Plainview starts 2025 with an eye toward the postseason having just missed the playoffs last year. Replacing All-State second teamer Cole Cooper won't be easy but this isn't Dale Pruitt's first rodeo. Owen Hope had two TD runs in the jamboree against a very good Anniston team which led to a 16-14 Plainview lead at half. |
Westminster Christian comes in off a 49-34 victory over 5A East Limestone in the opener. Houston Scott leads the high-powered offense and likes to spread the ball around and between Bendolph, Rutledge and Billups he has plenty of reliable targets. |
This game could go a long way toward playoff positioning. It decided 4 and 5 last year. I think both teams will make the post season this year, but I like the Bears in a close one. |

Series:
Spain Park and Hoover have met 25 times on the field....
Hoover holds a 21-4 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Hoover comes into Alabama play having just fallen victim to the small college IMG Academy 34 to 13. Jonah Winston (brother of Jameis) hauled in 6 catches for 82 yards. The Bucs struggled to stop the IMG ground game, but what team wouldn't? |
Spain Park dispatched Sparkman fairly easily 48 to 21 to open the season, although Sparkman did cut it to 27 -21 in the third quarter before Spain Park finally put it away. The Jaguars finished with over 600 yards of total offense with Nicolas McKissic accounting for 149 of those on the ground himself. |
The Bucs can't dwell on a loss to a team like IMG, that will happen to most teams. Spain Park can't afford a midgame nap like they pulled against Sparkman. Both teams are loaded with talent, this could go either way but I can't see the Bucs starting 0-2 and losing two consecutive years to Spain Park. |

Series:
Winfield and Sulligent have met 75 times on the field....
Winfield holds a 46-25 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Comments: Both of these teams made deep playoff runs last year in their respective classes, with Winfield reaching the 3A Quarterfinals and Sulligent reaching the 2A Semifinals, so this will be a great early test for both sides. |
Winfield fell to Corner last week 34-20, but this was still a respectable showing for the Pirates against a 5A contender. Winfield lost several key contributors on offense from last season, but they return three All-State players on the defensive side. They lost to eventual state champions Mars Hill in the Semifinals last year, but held the champs to one of their lowest scoring outputs of the season. Overall, their defense allowed just 14 ppg and should be good enough to keep them in every game they play. |
Sulligent started 2-4 a year ago before reeling off seven straight wins to reach the Class 2A Semifinals, where they would lose a tight game to Tuscaloosa Academy. The Blue Devils are after more this year as they return 1st Team Athlete JohnWil Spruiel. The Junior plays QB on offense and Safety on defense, and he led the team with 19 total Touchdowns last season. The Blue Devils will have to replace top receiver Haigan Gann and RB AJ Lowe, who combined for 34 TDs. Gann was also their leading tackler. Sulligent is always a program that always seems capable of quietly making deep runs in the postseason, and if last season is any indication, this team will only get better as the season goes on. |
I think both of these teams will be stronger on defense than offense, at least early in the year. I'll take the elite defense from Winfield to pull this one out, and that will be one of the top units in all of Class 3A. |

|
| Prediction: Winfield 28, Sulligent 6 |

Series:
Guntersville and Fort Payne have met 32 times on the field....
Guntersville holds a 18-14 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Comments: These two teams met for the first time since 1999 last season, and Guntersville won that one in a tight game. Fort Payne has just one win in the series since 1985. |
After reaching the Semifinals in 2023, Guntersville came up on the short end of a 3-way tie atop their region in 2024, which saw them have to travel to Leeds in the 1st Round in a matchup they would ultimately lose. Needless to say, this is a team that will undoubtedly feel like they've got something to prove in 2025, and they just might have the pieces to do it. The top player for them is 3-Star WR Dadrien Waller, who is committed to Cincinnati. |
Fort Payne lost a lot of top players from a team that was just two points shy of the Semifinals last season. Blake Griggs seems to be their answer at QB for this season, as he helped lead the Wildcats to a victory over Scottsboro last week, and they return leading RB Carter Blaylock, who led the team with 13 total TDs last season. The Wildcats will be replacing most of the top players on the defensive side of the ball as well, so this could be a bit of a rebuilding year for this squad. |
I'm not sure that either of these teams will be as good as they were last year, but Fort Payne should still be a playoff team, and Guntersville could still make some noise in the postseason. Guntersville should be a bit more experienced early in the season, so I'll take them in this one. |

Series:
Spanish Fort and Theodore have met 4 times on the field....
The teams have both won 2 games.
|
|
| Comments: Comments: A few regions across the state will begin region play this week, and 6A Region 1 is one of those. This one could easily have playoff implications at the end of the season, as Theodore is expected to be a fringe playoff team in this loaded region. |
Spanish Fort returns one of the state's top QBs is Aaden Shamburger, who is currently committed to South Alabama. This was actually a run-heavy team a season ago, but with their top two RBs graduated and an experienced QB returning, we could see them rely more on the pass this season. But every opposing defense will have to account for the potential read option on nearly every play, as Shamburger is capable of scoring at any time with a 4.4 40-yd dash time. |
Theodore missed the playoffs last year at 5-5, but they probably would've been good enough to reach the playoffs in any other region. This team struggled a bit on the offensive side of the ball last year, averaging just 20 ppg, but they return Junior RB Kendrick Able, Jr., who could be an exciting prospect in the Class of 2027. They'll be solid up front on both sides of the ball, with two players on O-line and one on D-line that could play college ball. LB JJ Bush is a 3-Star Arkansas commit at Linebacker. |
It seems like every game in 6A Region 1 is a rock fight, and I don't expect this one to be any different. Theodore should be improved this year and should make a push for the postseason, but I'll take Spanish Fort with an experienced QB. |

Series:
Pike Road and Enterprise have met 2 times on the field....
Enterprise holds a 2-0 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Comments: Both teams reached the Semifinals last year in their respective classes, so this should be a great game. |
Following a 3-3 start, Pike Road pretty quietly reached the Class 6A Semifinals in 2024, and they return many key players from that team. Among those returning are 3-Star Senior in ATH Omari Smith, DB Jordan Holmes, LB Braylon Outlaw, and RB Ja'Michael Jones. Outlaw and Jones are committed to two SEC schools in Tennessee and Ole Miss respectively. There's always a lot of good teams at the top of 6A, but this team should be one of the best. |
Despite losing four region games, Enterprise managed to reach the Class 7A Semifinals in 2024. QB Mason Burkhardt threw for 11 TDs last season, and he currently holds scholarship offers from multiple Division 1 programs. The Wildcats lost several good players on defense, but leading tackler Walker Turner returns at MLB to lead the defense, averaging 14 tackles per game last year. They'll have some pieces to replace, but with the way the 7A bracket lines up this year, they could have a favorable draw if they can finish 2nd or 3rd in Region 2. |
I've gone back and forth on this one. Enterprise won pretty handily last year, but I think Pike Road will be improved and a legitimate state championship contender in 6A this year, while Enterprise lost a couple of their best players. Pike Road struggled to put away Prattville last week, and Enterprise should be a better team than Prattville, so I'm gonna take Enterprise in a close one. |

|
|
| Comments: A game last year that was a blowout, will almost certainly not be that way this year. Last year Vestavia Hills was a young team and got better throughout the year. The Rebels are looking to get off to a better start than last year, and a big momentum swing would be a victory over the Auburn Tigers. |
Auburn is a younger team than they were last season, graduating a lot of talent off to play on Saturdays. However Carson Myers transferred in for the Tigers to take over the helm. Funny enough neither one of these teams played in state schools last week. |
Vestavia Hills from what I saw last week looked like a much improved squad, and Auburn did not look too bad in their own right. I think this being played in Vestavia gives the Rebels a great chance of winning this football game. However I have a feeling that Auburn is just going to have more answers. Maybe I am wrong, but I feel they will be ready for the road trip. |
Give me Auburn to win, but in a very close ballgame. |

|
| Comments: Well what a turnaround Russell County has had in the past season and a half. Long thought to be an afterthought, now contending for region titles and winning playoff games. The Warriors of Russell County have done a great job these last 12 months. |
Eufaula however got the better of Russell County last season and won their matchup. Surprising considering that Eufaula was not their typical contender level team. But the Tigers got it done and now Russell County wants to avenge their last season loss. History does not favor the Warriors at all, in fact they have played on a fairly consistent basis, and Russell County last defeated Eufaula back in 1998. |
Both teams looked impressive in their first games. Quarterback Bryson Riggins is making a case as one of the best players in the long storied history of Russell County history. Eufaula however looked great defensively against a solid B.T. Washington team. I think Russell County is going to win this game. They will avenge this loss and will continue to win games. |
While I think they will finish second place in the region, I still expect the Warriors to win at least 10 games, a massive improvement from just two years ago. |

| Comments: A historic rivalry in a historic city! These two have been playing for a very long time. These two have historically played each other. The only thing that has changed is one of their school names, these two are very much heated rivals. |
You can never look at the records when these two. I was very impressed with both of these teams' performances last week. Even in a loss, fans that watched the game will tell you the Carver vs Thompson game was much closer than the scoreboard would indicate. |
Zion Crumpton is the X factor for the Wolverines, and while all summer I heard rave reviews of the Phoenix's defense, I think Crumpton will be the main factor in a Carver victory. |

|
| Comments: Two teams that are looking to represent the south when it comes time for their respective classifications. We thought this one would be a very close game last year, and Reeltown handled business. Both of these teams had very interesting first games. |
TR Miller handled Reeltown down in Brewton, and Holtville gave Trinity a scare on Thursday night. Reeltown's starting quarterback from last year, Ja'markius Smith has returned to the Rebels this season. While Trinity had some players graduate, many expect them to have a strong offensive line this season. |
This game will be close, but playing in Reeltown is hard for anyone. In fact, the last time the Rebels lost on their home field was back in 2021 when they lost at home to, you guessed it, Trinity! I think Smith is too much to handle and I think he guides the Rebels back into the win column. |
