AHSFHS Power Ratings have Jackson as a 6 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Jackson Aggies defeated Anniston by a score of 52-0 in the Super Seven Championship game at Home  on Fri., Dec. 5 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Jackson and Anniston have met one time on the field.... Jackson holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Anniston arrives at the Super 7 boasting an 14-0 undefeated record, which includes 2 wins over 5A playoff teams. In the semis they survived a scrappy Plainview team, scoring with under 5 seconds left to take home the north. QB Damon Pope, who scored the winning TD, finished the game with 247 yards on the ground and was aided by RB Jabari Williams 133 yards and 3 TDs.

The Jackson Aggies avenged their lone region loss of the year by knocking off St Michael in the semis by the score of 44 to 23. Duckworth, Crowell & Chapman all found the endzone in the win.

Anniston is a very good team and a deserving team, but Jackson is just so talented. And I think most people would agree, they haven't played their best game yet. They have been sloppy at times this year. The hope for Anniston is that Jackson has one of those games again. If they do and Anniston hangs around and it's tight late, watch out. But I just don't think that will happen. Jackson has been here before and knows what has to be done. Just too much firepower.

Prediction:  Jackson 49 Anniston 21

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Mars Hill as a 12 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Mars Hill Panthers defeated Bayside Academy by a score of 38-21 in the Super Seven Championship game at Home  on Thu., Dec. 4 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Mars Hill and Bayside Academy have met one time on the field.... Mars Hill holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Bayside lost their season opener to 4A semi finalist St Michael and then reeled off 13 straight wins. The Admirals have put up some big numbers on offense, averaging just north of 40 ppg while giving up just under 12 ppg. They jumped out to a quick 21 to 0 lead against Southside and coasted the rest of the way for an easy semifinal win. Multiple pick sixes by the Admirals put the game away.

The Panthers kept rolling in the semis with a fairly easy victory over a very good Piedmont team 48 to 16. I am sounding like a broken record, but their closest game all year was 24 points to a 4A playoff team in Madison Academy. The Panthers also boast blowout wins over 5A playoff team Russellville and 5A semifinalist Scottsboro. Their closest game in the postseason thus far was the 32 point win against Piedmont.

I have really liked Bayside all year, including having them ranked 4th in the preseason and any other year they'd be a real contender to take this championship home. But not this year. The Panthers have way too many weapons. Penn and Higgins are a formidable duo. Mix in multiple other contributors and it's just overwhelming.

Prediction:  Mars Hill 52 Bayside 27

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Thompson as a 15 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Thompson Warriors defeated Thompson by a score of 48-10 in the Super Seven Championship game at Home  on Wed., Dec. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Thompson and Thompson have met 2 times on the field.... Thompson holds a 2-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little shocked to see the Bulldogs here. They've lost 3 games this year, not a big deal in a competitive 7A, but they have lost some pretty bad. They did avenge one of the losses in the semis by knocking off Auburn 31 to 28. CJ Johnson provided the spark scoring two rushing TD's of over 50 yards and returning a kickoff for a TD.

The Warriors, who might as well just make Super 7 reservations each year, come in with 3 losses themselves. However those three losses are by a combined 8 points. They scraped by in the semis with a 35 to 34 win over Central Phenix City. A game they led 35 to 14 with under 10 minutes to play and almost let slip away.

Most people think the de facto 7A championship was played two weeks ago and I have a hard time saying that isn't the case. But as any athletic competition, all you need is a chance and that Bulldogs have gotten that chance. Ultimately, the Warriors are just too seasoned and skilled IMO. Seaborn is a great QB and seems to really excel in the playoffs. With targets like Mehkil Billingsley, it's hard to stop that offense.

Prediction:  Thompson 38 Opelika 17

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Maplesville as a 9 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Maplesville Red Devils defeated Wadley by a score of 42-22 in the Super Seven Championship game at Home  on Thu., Dec. 4 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Maplesville and Wadley have met 4 times on the field.... Maplesville holds a 3-1 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: This is the most highly-anticipated matchup of the week for me. We've got the undefeated defending champions in Wadley taking on a Maplesville squad that could go down as pound-for-pound one of the greatest teams in state history if they can with this game.

Well Maplesville nearly doubled their points allowed on the year when they gave up 18 last week to Leroy, however two of those scores came in garbage time. That's right, they had given up just 27 points through their first 13 games, including 10 shutouts. Their closest game remains their season-opening 35-6 win over Fyffe. The average score of their games is 48-3. This is about as dominant a team as I've ever seen, but they'll have to find a way to stop Jaquez Wilkes and Co. this week.

Over the past couple of weeks, there have been some cracks showing up in the armor of the Wadley Bulldogs. They rallied from down 26-14 a couple weeks ago against Hubbertville to score over 60 points, but they found themselves in a battle all the way to the final whistle last week against Addison. The good news for Wadley is they've now shown over the last two weeks that they can win both a shootout or a defensive slugfest.

It's hard to go against an undefeated defending champion, but nothing about Maplesville this year suggests anyone is capable of scoring a bunch of points on them, not even Jaquez Wilkes. I expect Wilkes to get a couple of scores, but Wadley won't be able to stop Maplesville often enough to keep up with them. I'll take the Red Devils to win and go down as one of the greatest teams in state history.

Prediction:  Maplesville 34, Wadley 14

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Lanett as a 1 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Coosa Christian Conquerors defeated Lanett by a score of 29-22 in the Super Seven Championship game at Home  on Fri., Dec. 5 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Coosa Christian and Lanett have met one time on the field.... Coosa Christian holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: I can promise you won't see a more physical game this week than this one. These two teams pride themselves on playing hard-hitting defense, and neither allow a lot of points.

Lanett has pretty much come out of nowhere this year on their run to the state championship game. The Panthers have ridden their elite defensive prowess to a 12-2 record, with those two losses coming by a combined five points to Class 4A Quarterfinalist Bullock County and Handley, who reached the 2nd Round in Class 4A. The Panthers even managed to do what some other teams couldn't last week-beat the same team twice in one year-as they once again knocked off defending champions Reeltown. This defense allows just 9.5 points per game, and they have yet to allow 20 points in a game.

Coosa Christian came so close to capturing their first state championship two years ago, when they lost by just a touchdown in the Class 1A championship game to Leroy. After missing the postseason last year due to having to forfeit games, they're back looking to claim their first piece of hardware as an AHSAA program. Regardless of the outcome of this one, look for the Crusaders to be competitive when they move up to Class 3A, because the majority of this team's core is made up of Sophomores, including QB Mac Long, who has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards and 22 TDs, and RB Kylen Johnson, who has rushed for 1,400 yards and 23 TDs along with 9 receiving TDs.

This is one of the toughest matchups to predict of the week. It's tough to pick against a Rush Propst team in a championship game, but on a whim I picked Lanett to win earlier in the week, and I'm not backing down from that pick. If it's true that defense wins championships, then I like Lanett's chances to push their championship game record to 3-0.

Prediction:  Lanett 20, Coosa Christian 14

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Thompson as a 15 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Thompson Warriors defeated Thompson by a score of 48-10 in the Super Seven Championship game at Home  on Wed., Dec. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Thompson and Thompson have met 2 times on the field.... Thompson holds a 2-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: For the first time a decade, the 7A State Championship Game will feature a team other than Thompson, Central Phenix City, or Auburn as Opelika looks to knock off the Warriors to win their first state championship. Thompson is looking for their sixth title in seven years.

Somehow, Trent Seaborn just seems to get better every year. The Junior has thrown for nearly 3,400 yards and 32 TDs on the season with another 5 TDs on the ground. He will be one of the most coveted QB prospects to ever come out of the state next year. They've got a talented young RB in Sophomore Urijah Casey, who averages 7.2 yards per carry with 10 rushing scores. As always, the Warriors have an elite defense, allowing just 13.2 points per game. DB Damonte Tabb has an incredible 9 interceptions on the season and another 9 passes defended.

If there's one thing Opelika is very familiar with, it's playing in close games. Eight of their thirteen games have been decided by 10 points or less, with seven one-score games. The Bulldogs have had some inconsistency in the passing game this year, with just 13 TDs to 9 interceptions, but part of that is that they've played three different QBs. They do have a potent rushing attack, led by Senior RB CJ Johnson with nearly 1,000 yards and 9 TDs. Johnson also has over 500 yards returning kicks, so he's got a lot of explosive ability.

Opelika has had a fantastic season to make it this far, but let's face it, the real championship game was held two weeks ago between Thompson and Central Phenix City. I expect the Warriors to win pretty comfortably in this one.

Prediction:  Thompson 42, Opelika 17

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Moody as a 5 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Moody Blue Devils defeated Vigor by a score of 25-0 in the Super Seven Championship game at Home  on Thu., Dec. 4 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Moody and Vigor have met one time on the field.... Moody holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    A very intriguing matchup, between two drastically different programs historically. One has been historically excellent, while the other is just starting to find their stride in the win column. We will start with Moody. Moody used to be a doormat of a football team. Regularly scheduled for homecomings, mostly known for their dominant wrestling team. That was till Jake Ganus walked through the door and completely changed the program forever. Taking the program to new heights that no one thought possible. Moody is much more than just a wrestling school.

Vigor has history on their side, with four state titles, and a wall of region championships to back it up. Let's talk about Moody first. Quarterback Jake Lowery and wide receiver Josiah Dozier lead the Blue Devils alongside running back Le'Kamren Meadows with over 1,000 yards rushing this season. They will have the task of attempting to score on the vaunted Vigor defense.

Moody's defense is led by sack artists Cam Mallory, Henry Smith, and Dezron Mobley have helped lead the Blue Devils defense with star Ba'Roc Willis holding big time offers from Power 4 programs. Moody, besides their games against teams they had no business playing, have dominated most of their games except their games against Leeds. Vigor avenged their loss to Williamson in a 28-21 victory over their arch rivals to punch their ticket to Birmingham. They are led by their stout defense. Junior Jabarrius Garror who is committed to the University of Alabama leads the way at edge rusher. Miguel Wilson, Issac McNeil and Emmanuel Gales help lead the Wolves on defense to be one of the best in the state. Offensively they have Army commit Sammy Dunn at quarterback and Alabama A&M commit Dylan Jackson leading the way.

I think what this boils down to is I think the Vigor offense isn't up to the level of the Moody offense. I think when we get to the championship games, I think this is where you have to be balanced on both sides of the ball. I think Dozier and Meadows are just too much to handle and the Blue Devils take home the 5A title.

Prediction:  Final Score: Moody 21 Vigor 13

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Clay-Chalkville as a 2 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Clay-Chalkville Cougars defeated Saraland by a score of 38-21 in the Super Seven Championship game at Home  on Fri., Dec. 5 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Clay-Chalkville and Saraland have met 3 times on the field.... Clay-Chalkville holds a 3-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    This is the perfect game to cap off the season as this will be the final game of the Super 7. These two have been the best teams in 6A all season long. And that is quite the compliment because 6A is absolutely loaded every year, but this year it was even more loaded. We will start with Clay Chalkville.

It is hard to find something that this team doesn't do right. Maybe a strange performance against Jackson Olin in the first round? Besides that it has been a flawless season for the Cougars. Led by Alabama State commit quarterback Aaron Frye alongside running back Joshua Woods who has over 1,300 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns. Corey Barber who has over 1,100 receiving yards this season is the star wide receiver for this team and is a game changer. On defense they have Cincinnati commit Zay Starks alongside rising star Keith Richmond on the edge. Point is, this team is loaded on all fronts.

Now for Saraland. They have once again marched their way into the state championship game. The last time this team was not in the state title game was back in 2021. They have beaten teams pretty comfortably too, with most not being terribly close in the end. We will start with their junior quarterback Jamison Roberts. He has 55 touchdowns on the season. Running back PJ Brown is a handful as well; he is the underrated piece in this offense that makes it churn. Who's not underrated and is the star of this offense is wide receiver DeShawn Spencer. The Duke commit with 26 touchdowns to his name, is an absolute menace to guard. Spencer vs Barber will be fun to see who ends the game with more yards and touchdowns.

These teams are almost dead even on every front. I think the slight edge goes to Saraland for their quarterback play. Jamison Roberts I think has the slight edge in the quarterback battle. I think these teams will score a lot of points, but Roberts pulls out the victory.

Prediction:  Saraland 48 Clay Chalkville 40

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Thompson as a 15 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Thompson Warriors defeated Thompson by a score of 48-10 in the Super Seven Championship game at Home  on Wed., Dec. 3 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Thompson and Thompson have met 2 times on the field.... Thompson holds a 2-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    We have made it yet again to a 7A state championship where the Thompson Warriors are once in it. Eight years in a row, that is the first that has ever happened. Opelika has made it to the 7A state title game for the first time, the other times were when they were in 6A. Thompson has an embarrassment of riches on their end.

Starting with their leader, Trent Seaborn. Seaborn has the accuracy, the arm strength, just about everything you could ever want in a quarterback. He also is currently committed to the University of Alabama.

Opelika is led by their star running back CJ Johnson. He has carried the Bulldogs to this state title alongside a very stingy defense. Johnson ran for 178 yards and a touchdown alongside a 95 yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Auburn in their semi final game.

Here is what the game boils down to. Thompson has a very good defense. So does Opelika, I think those two areas are pretty much even on paper. However Thompson has the much better offense and has been in this situation before. I think the Warriors will roll with their championship DNA and the leadership of Trent Seaborn. Give me the Warriors to win yet another 7A title.

Prediction:  Thompson 31 Opelika 10

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The Hazlewood Golden Bears have won 11 state titles. The most of any team in any classification since the playoffs began in 1966.
