6A-R3  Class/Region 6A-R2

AHSFHS Power Ratings have the teams as even.

Last Meeting:   The Thompson Warriors defeated Central Phenix City by a score of 35-34 in the semi-finals of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Central Phenix City and Thompson have met 6 times on the field.... Thompson holds a 4-2 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Thompson ran their record to 9-3 this past week by dismantling a pretty solid Mary Montgomery team 54 to 0. QB Trent Seaborn (you may have heard of him) went 15 for 16 for 262 yards and 4 TDs.

Central improved to 11-1 by knocking off Fairhope 31 to 15. Their only loss was to small college IMG Academy. RB Jayshaun Woodhouse took the Pirate defense to the woodshed by posting 126 yards including a 54 yard touchdown run late to seal the win.

Both teams have great squads and great coaches. Probably would've been the title game had it lined up correctly, but them's the breaks. Thompson has outscored their opponents 85 to 7 thus far in the playoffs. Central is a tough place to play but those three losses by a combined 8 points prepares the Warriors for these types of games. Expect a classic.

Prediction:  Thompson 28 CPC 27

 Geraldine (0-0) at

3A-R8  Class/Region A-R4
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
72.6  Power Rating 86.9
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Mars Hill as a 16 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Mars Hill Panthers defeated Geraldine by a score of 42-0 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Mars Hill and Geraldine have met 3 times on the field.... Mars Hill holds a 2-1 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Geraldine outlasted a tough Westbrook Christian team last week 31 to 15 to run their record to 11-1 with their only loss being a gritty 20 to 0 loss to 5A playoff team Boaz. Cooper Johnson racked up 103 yards on just 5 carries.

The talk around the area is this may be Darrell Higgins best team ever at Mars Hill and it is hard to argue with it. They now stand at 12-0 behind Hudson Higgins 212 yards on the ground that led to the destruction of a good Winfield team 42 to 6.

Geraldine has really built something special under Coach Davis, but no one has given Mars Hill a game this year, including 4A Madison Academy (24 point win), 5A Russellville (29) and 5A Scottsboro (27). People around here and I am sure around Geraldine will be quick to remind you that no one gave the Bulldogs a chance against the Panthers back in 2022 and they pulled off the huge upset. But brother, this isn't 2022.

Prediction:  Mars Hill 40 Geraldine 21

 W.S. Neal (0-0) at

3A-R1  Class/Region 3A-R1
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
69.7  Power Rating 79.1
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Jackson as a 11 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Jackson Aggies defeated W.S. Neal by a score of 50-7 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Jackson and W.S. Neal have met 13 times on the field.... Jackson holds a 10-2 edge in the games played.

Comments:    The Eagles come in 9-3 and off a blistering of American Christian 35 to 7, on the backs of their 35 to 14 win in round one. They've proven to be a dangerous 3 seed. Neal led 28 to 0 at half over ACA.

Jackson played pretty sloppy but still prevailed with a 42 to 28 win over a good Handley team bringing their record to 10-2. EJ Crowell dominated again, going for 350... yes 350 and 4 TDs.

Earlier this season Jackson handles Neal to the tune of 30 to 7. We all know the immense talent on this Jackson team but they will have to clean up their play. They had 6 turnovers against Handley making that game much closer than it should've been. Maybe they got that out of their system Friday Night. For Neal, I hope not.

Prediction:  Jackson 41 Neal 22

 Plainview (0-0) at
 Good Hope (0-0)
at James W. Shabel Stadium
Plainview   Good Hope
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
3A-R8  Class/Region 4A-R8
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
76.4  Power Rating 71.3
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Plainview as a 3 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Plainview Bears defeated Good Hope by a score of 28-7 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Thu., Nov. 20 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Good Hope and Plainview have met 5 times on the field.... Plainview holds a 4-1 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Plainview made easy work of a very good Alexandria team in the second round 42 to 14 running their record to a perfect 12-0. QB Owen Hope ran for 232 yards and 4 TDs behind that massive offensive line.

Good Hope, dare I say, shocked most of us. Not that they could beat West Morgan but to do it in such a convincing manner 31 to 7. Good Hope QB Johnson had 178 yards on the ground with a pair of scores and also threw for 108.

Plainview's big offensive line against a stingy Good Hope defense will be fun to watch. Good Hope does have two losses but they were both by 7 points. Which Hope do you trust more? Good or Owen? Maybe I am biased because I saw Owen run all over Brooks, but I think he will be a little too much, although this may be the best defense he has seen this year.

Prediction:  Plainview 21 Good Hope 16

 Hubbertville (0-0) at

0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
1A-R5  Class/Region 1A-R6
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
58.8  Power Rating 71.2
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Wadley as a 14 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Wadley Bulldogs defeated Hubbertville by a score of 62-38 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Wadley and Hubbertville have met 2 times on the field.... Wadley holds a 2-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: These two teams have been on a collision course all season. Hubbertville brings the top offense in Class 1A to face defending champs Wadley with the top player in maybe the entire state in RB/DE Jaquez Wilkes.

When it comes to Wadley, it's best to just admit you won't stop their run game. All-state RB Jaquez Wilkes averages 13 yards per carry along with a Touchdown about every four carries. His wingman Cortavion Lynch averages over 10 yards per carry and a Touchdown about every five carries. The best you can hope for is to force some turnovers and maybe one or two other stops. But even if you can slow down their offense, their defense is also elite, allowing more than 13 points just twice all season, one of which was 21 points to Class 3A semifinalists Glenwood.

Hubbertville scored their fewest points in a game in their 42-6 win over Hackleburg last week. That's right, 42 points is their fewest this season, and only their second time being held under 50. They just have crazy numbers across the board on offense. QB Blaize Wakefield has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards and 29 TDs to go with 7 rushing TDs. Lead RB Tyler Stricklin has rushed for over 1,300 yards and 17 TDs, while their backup also has 12 rushing scores. They've got a 1,000 yard receiver in William Rushing, who has 19 receiving TDs on the year.

It's really difficult to figure out how this one will play out. Hubbertville can score a bunch of points in a hurry, but they'll need to be able to keep Wilkes out of their backfield to do that, and that feels like too tall a task. They'll put up points, but not enough to keep up with Wadley.

Prediction:  Wadley 48, Hubbertville 26

 Lanett (0-0) at
 Luverne (0-0)
at Glenn Daniel Stadium
Lanett   Luverne
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
2A-R4  Class/Region 2A-R1
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
64.2  Power Rating 65.6
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Luverne as a 3 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Lanett Panthers defeated Luverne by a score of 35-16 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Luverne and Lanett have met 8 times on the field.... Luverne holds a 5-3 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: This will be a state championship-level matchup right here. The #1 scoring offense in Class 2A in Luverne squaring off against the #1 scoring defense in Class 2A in Lanett. I think whoever wins this will play for the state championship.

Luverne doesn't throw the ball much, averaging just 5 completions per game, but when they do, it's usually for a touchdown. Nearly 25% of their completions go for touchdowns, and QB Kane Smith has 25 TD passes on the season. Half of their passes go to Sophomore Elliott Harris, who has 30 catches and 12 TDs. Six different players have at least 300 rushing yards, and they've had 56 rushing TDs as a team. They have a ton of size and speed on both sides of the ball, and with six shutouts on the season, they should be built to win shootouts as a well as defensive slugfests.

Lanett comes in with just two losses on the season by a combined 5 points to 4A schools in Bullock County and Handley, both of whom won playoff games. They also knocked off defending 2A champions Reeltown to win their region title. They've yet to allow more than 19 points in a game, which they gave up in that win over Reeltown. Their defense will be good enough to keep them in any game, including this one. The question is will their offense be able to produce against a really good Luverne defense?

The matchup of Luverne's offense vs Lanett's defense will steal the headlines, but the matchup that will decide it will be Lanett's offense vs Luverne's defense. Montgomery Academy is the only team to have significant success against Luverne's defense, and Lanett doesn't have near the offensive talent of Montgomery Academy.

Prediction:  Luverne 28, Lanett 20

 Anniston (0-0) at
 Deshler (0-0)
at Howard Chappell Stadium
Anniston   Deshler
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
4A-R6  Class/Region 4A-R7
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
77.6  Power Rating 73.8
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Anniston as a 2 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Anniston Bulldogs defeated Deshler by a score of 31-7 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Deshler and Anniston have met 4 times on the field.... The teams have both won 2 games.

Comments:    Comments: This game will feature a pair of dynamic Quarterbacks in Anniston's Damon Pope and Deshler's Price Thornton. They are by far the two most talented teams remaining in the North, so the winner will be a pretty large favorite in their semifinal game.

Anniston has the top scoring defense in Class 4A, allowing just 10.1 points per game. They've only allowed 20 points once, against Ashville in their second game of the season. They have had a few close games this year against Beauregard, Alexandria, Cherokee County, and Jacksonville, but those were all playoff teams. Their schedule in the second half of the season was fairly weak, but they made a statement with their 44-12 victory over Madison Academy last week.

Deshler Quarterback Price Thornton is one of the top QBs in Class 4A, and the Senior is approaching 2,000 passing yards on the season. Deshler is one of the most historic programs in the state, but it has been a while since their last state championship in 1999. In fact, they're 0-for their last seven state championship appearances, with the last coming in 2018. This is probably the best team they've had since then, but they might have to beat three straight undefeated teams to get there.

Deshler is a really good team, but Anniston is a great team. The Bulldogs will face their first real test of the postseason, but I think they'll be able to overwhelm Deshler with talent.

Prediction:  Anniston 27, Deshler 14

 Saraland (0-0) at
 Pike Road (0-0)
at Pike Road Stadium
Saraland   Pike Road
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
5A-R1  Class/Region 5A-R2
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
91.0  Power Rating 94.7
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Pike Road as a 6 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Saraland Spartans defeated Pike Road by a score of 56-32 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Pike Road and Saraland have met 3 times on the field.... Saraland holds a 3-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: I was a bit surprised to find that our computers actually have Pike Road as the favorite in this one, mainly because Saraland has reached the state championship game in each of the past three seasons. But don't be fooled into thinking Saraland will be a sure thing of an underdog pick. This will likely be one of the best games of the entire postseason.

Pike Road has the 2nd-best scoring defense in Class 6A, allowing just 8.1 points per game. They’ve had four shutouts on the season and have allowed more than 14 points just twice, in their two close losses to 7A teams. They've had comfortable, but certainly not dominant, victories in their first two playoff games, but that could be a blessing to a team that hasn't won a close game since Week 1. They have a young QB in Sophomore Gunner Gibbs, but he now has a full regular of starting experience plenty of players around him with experience contributing to deep playoff runs.

While Pike Road has the dominant defense, Saraland once again has a stellar offense, as the Spartans come into this matchup with the 2nd-best scoring offense in Class 6A at 40.9 points per game. Saraland also has the 3rd-best scoring defense in Class 6A, allowing 10.6 points per game. However, the Spartans have seen their defense challenged far more in the playoffs than at any point in the regular season. They never gave up more than 14 points in a game until the playoffs, where they've allowed 24 and 31 points in their two games. Spain Park had them on the ropes last week before some late-game heroics allowed them to escape with a 35-31 win. There's still elite talent on this team, like Junior QB Jamison Roberts and Senior WR DeShawn Spencer, but this isn't quite the Saraland team of the last few years.

Given their postseasons performance, I don't think Region 1 was as strong as we thought it was, which explains why Saraland's defense has taken a step back the past two weeks. I picked Pike Road to reach the semifinals in my bracket, and I think their defense will come up with the big plays necessary to send the Spartans home early for the first time in four years.

Prediction:  Pike Road 24, Saraland 21

A-R2  Class/Region A-R1

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Bayside Academy as a 4 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Bayside Academy Admirals defeated Montgomery Academy by a score of 30-13 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Bayside Academy and Montgomery Academy have met 4 times on the field.... Bayside Academy holds a 3-1 edge in the games played.

Comments:    We have made it to the 3A South collision that we have all been waiting on. Ever since the bracket was realize, we all had a good feeling these two would find each other in the quarterfinals. Let's start with Montgomery Academy. Smart offensive team and an athletic tough defense. It is something that wins teams championships in these lower classifications.

Some schools are limited to their offensive capability but not Montgomery Academy, they can score and score a bunch of points quickly. They are also tough on defense with 4-Star talent Braden Gordon leading the charge from the edge rushing position. He also plays wildcat quarterback at times. My question is the depth on the offensive line, if some guys get tired or banged up, who's gonna step in and fill that spot? Bayside Academy has been a joy to watch. If you love good offensive football, this is your team.

They're also well coached just like Montgomery Academy. They don't have the size like Montgomery Academy, but they are very fast and disciplined. Only one team has been able to score on either of these teams. Luverne scores 48 on Montgomery Academy, and St Michael scored 41 on Bayside Academy. I am not holding that against either one, both of those teams finished ranked #1 in their classification. These teams are so evenly matched across the board I am going to lean on who's got the better top player.

I think Braden Gordon is a game wrecker and he ultimately leads the Eagles to a victory.

Prediction:  Montgomery Academy 27 Bayside Academy 25

2A-R4  Class/Region A-R1
NR  ASWA Ranking NR

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Reeltown as a 11 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Reeltown Rebels defeated Providence Christian by a score of 28-7 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Providence Christian and Reeltown have met one time on the field.... Reeltown holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    While we expected the previous matchup, I don't think anyone had this one on their bracket. Providence Christian emerging as the four seed marching their way to the quarterfinals has a date with the defending state champions who blasted Cottonwood out of the playoffs for a third consecutive year.

Providence Christian runs an offense that can slow down the Rebels high powered offense. But I do not think they have the skill players to cover the high powered offensive players that Reeltown has.

I love a good Cinderella run, but all runs come to an end eventually, Reeltown's offensive is just too much for Providence Christian.

Prediction:  Reeltown 43 Providence Christian 21

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Southside Selma as a 5 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Southside Selma Panthers defeated Glenwood School by a score of 34-21 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Southside Selma and Glenwood School have met one time on the field.... Southside Selma holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Last year's Cinderella in Southside Selma has been marching through every opponent in their path. Only one game has been within one score and that was back in Week 3.

3A is an interesting classification because you see a lot of old school offenses thrive with good talent around them. However Southside Selma runs more Mike Leach Air Raid rather than a Notre Dame Box you might see in 3A. Glenwood is very balanced and has been a much more difficult schedule I will say.

But does it really matter when you have the size and talent Southside has? I don't think it matters, yet. Next week might be a different story, but this week is just another week in Selma.

Prediction:  Southside Selma 44 Glenwood 26

 Williamson (0-0) at

0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
4A-R1  Class/Region AA-R1

89.6  Power Rating 75.2
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Williamson as a 12 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Williamson Lions defeated Catholic Montgomery by a score of 41-10 in the third round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 21 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Catholic Montgomery and Williamson have met 2 times on the field.... The teams have both won 1 game.

Comments:    Catholic's hopes of a three peat come to their toughest test to date, a date with a high powered Williamson team. It has been three long years since the Knights lost a playoff game.

Williamson has destroyed teams all year. Good teams too. They score so many points and defensively are something to behold. The Knights have a good defense as well, not as good as last year but it's still a very good defense. They find ways to win, they have the championship DNA you want in a program.

But I think Williamson is just going to be a tough team to knock off this season. Someone should play the song My Way by Frank Sinatra because the Knights playoff dominance has come to an end, and with the jump to 6A looming this offseason, it might be a while before we see their run of dominance return.

Prediction:  Williamson 27 Catholic Montgomery 10

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Collinsville completed the 1931 season with a record of 1-4-5. The five ties will forever be a state record since all games are now decided by overtime.
