A-R4  Class/Region 3A-R8

72.7  Power Rating 69.1
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Westbrook Christian as a 2 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Geraldine Bulldogs defeated Westbrook Christian by a score of 31-15 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Geraldine and Westbrook Christian have met 11 times on the field.... Geraldine holds a 7-4 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Westbrook Christian returned to the playoffs after a 4 year hiatus in a big way last week with a 49-0 blistering of Vinemont. Brody Blevins had one TD through the air and one the ground in the dominant performance.

Geraldine made quick work of Rogers, smoking the Pirates to the tune of 59 to 27. Sophomore QB Jon Beck Wade led the effort being responsible for 340 total offensive yards. The Bulldogs led 52-3 before calling the dogs off. It never was a game.

Geraldine has become a consistent playoff threat under coach Davis, this past week marking his 7th career playoff victory. Westbrook, hasn't had that ''look at me'' win this year, unless you count the Trion, GA win (and most people in Alabama don't know much about Trion-yours truly included), but they have been impressive nonetheless and had Piedmont breathing hard for a minute. Geraldine has become a perennial contender under Davis, but I think the Warriors are this years team that emerges without much fanfare. Give me the Warriors in a tight one.

Prediction:  Westbrook Christian 33 Geraldine 31

 Parker (0-0) at

at J.F. Moore Stadium
Parker   Muscle Shoals
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
5A-R5  Class/Region 5A-R7
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
91.8  Power Rating 90.9
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Muscle Shoals as a 1 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Muscle Shoals Trojans defeated Parker by a score of 17-14 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Muscle Shoals and Parker have met 4 times on the field.... Muscle Shoals holds a 3-1 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Parker comes in after a big a 42-21 victory over Oxford to start their title defense. A game that was tight for a minute before Parker scored 21 straight and reminded everyone who they are. Aside from the out of state game to Carrollton GA, Parker has two loses by a combined 10 points.

The Trojans did what they have done all year, in the first round. Scored enough points and played smothering defense. Courtesy of the TimesDaily, Muscle Shoals held Mae Jemison to 3 yards or less on 22 plays, 11 of which were zero or minus yards. The Trojans led 31 to 6 at half before filtering in backups.

Can this be the year that the Trojans finally bring home the Blue Map under Basden? They were close in 2013 with a team that is eerily similar to this years. Parker, however, is no pushover. The reigning state champs line up with D1 talent on both sides of the ball. They're used to being here. Oddly enough that 2013 Trojans team also met Parker in the second round and won 31-0. I like the Trojans to repeat history, but certainly not by that score.

Prediction:  Muscle Shoals 20 Parker 14

 Pleasant Valley (0-0) at
 Tuscaloosa Academy (0-0)
at Knights Stadium
Pleasant Valley   Tuscaloosa Academy
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
2A-R6  Class/Region A-R3
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
52.1  Power Rating 41.0
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Pleasant Valley as a 9 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Tuscaloosa Academy Knights defeated Pleasant Valley by a score of 23-13 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Tuscaloosa Academy and Pleasant Valley have met one time on the field.... Tuscaloosa Academy holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    It's all feel good in Jacksonville after the first ever playoff victory for the Pleasant Valley Raiders came last week, knocking of a feisty Winston County team 40 t0 28. Winston County just couldn't contain QB Braxton Salster.

The Knights from Tuscaloosa Academy had a first round win 35 to 14 over a pretty solid 4 seed Susan Moore. It stopped a two game losing streak where they had a combined loss of 106 to 21. Mark Norris threw for 266 yards and 4 TDs and also rushed for 116 and one TD.

This game will be the battle of the QB's. Both teams have plenty of good to great players, I am not trying to discredit anyone at all, but both teams just have dynamic QB's. Tuscaloosa Academy is coming off an appearance in the finals last year and Pleasant Valley just had their first ever playoff win. Talk about two teams with different experiences. I'd love to see the PV train keep rolling, it's such a great story and I think it has a great chance to, but I like the Knights at home with that passing game.

Prediction:  Tuscaloosa Academy 38 Pleasant Valley 34

 Colbert County (0-0) at
 Gordo (0-0)
at Green Wave Stadium
Colbert County   Gordo
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
2A-R7  Class/Region 2A-R5
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
65.2  Power Rating 61.4
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Colbert County as a 2 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Gordo Green Wave defeated Colbert County by a score of 49-29 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Gordo and Colbert County have met one time on the field.... Gordo holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Colbert County comes in after blowing out a pretty solid Collinsville team 64 to 19. After a surprising opening season loss to 4A Central Florence, the Indians have been on a tear, but their two losses were big losses to Mars Hill and Deshler by 38 and 41 points respectively. The Indians had three guys go over 100 yards on the ground, led by Senior bruiser Frank Hayes who amassed 153 yards and found paydirt 4 times.

The Greenwave did Greenwave things in the first round by knocking off Walter Wellborn 49 to 0. AJ Latham led Gordo with 117 yards with 2 TD's. The only blemish on their record remains the unexplainable 22 to 19 loss to Vinemont.

It is hard to believe that here in 2025 that this will be the first ever meeting between two of the states most storied programs. I guess classifications and regions just never quite lined up. Both teams have unexplainable losses on the year, and both teams have impressive victories. Both teams have athletes all over the field. Both teams like to line up and run it right at you. This could sneaky be the game of the week in 3A North. I've been talking big about Frank Hayes since his freshman year, and I'm not jumping off that bandwagon this week. Agent 0 and the Indians pull the upset and bring a win back to Leighton.

Prediction:  Colbert County 42 Gordo 31

 Maplesville (0-0) at

0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
1A-R4  Class/Region 1A-R1
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
69.4  Power Rating 38.9
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Maplesville as a 29 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Maplesville Red Devils defeated McIntosh by a score of 48-0 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   McIntosh and Maplesville have met 3 times on the field.... Maplesville holds a 2-1 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: McIntosh has been a great Cinderella story in Class 1A this year, but they'll have to find a way to knock off title favorites Maplesville to keep their story going.

An offseason infusion of talent has seen McIntosh enter into largely unfamiliar territory. Prior to this season, they had not make the playoffs since 2012. Their season was ended by Brantley in the semifinals that year, but they got some revenge by defeating the Bulldogs in the 1st Round last week. Ironically, their 2nd Round matchup in 2012 also saw them hosting Maplesville. They have some incredible playmakers on offense, led by Sr QB Brayden Dixon with 1,800 passing yards and 32 TDs, and Jr RB Jayden Brown with nearly 1,200 rushing yards and 12 TDs.

Maplesville is on pace to have a historically great defense. Through 11 games, they've given up just 27 total points, and following their 58-0 win over R.C. Hatch in the 1st Round, they've recorded five straight shutouts. This defense has eight shutouts on the season, just a few shy of the record of 11 shutouts by Clay County in 1996. That Clay County team allowed just 2.8 points per game and never allowed more than 14 points, eerily similar to this Maplesville team. But the Red Devils also average more than 47 points per game on offense. Wadley might have the best player in Class 1A, but I think Maplesville has the best team as a whole.

This has been a great season for McIntosh and could prove to be a pivotal season for that program, but Maplesville is just a buzzsaw this year. The Red Devils are hungry for redemption, and they won't be denied until they get to Birmingham.

Prediction:  Maplesville 42, McIntosh 12

 Alexandria (0-0) at
 Plainview (0-0)
at Plainview Stadium
Alexandria   Plainview
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
4A-R6  Class/Region 3A-R8
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
68.9  Power Rating 71.8
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Plainview as a 5 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Plainview Bears defeated Alexandria by a score of 42-14 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Plainview and Alexandria have met one time on the field.... Plainview holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: This is as good a 2nd Round matchup as you'll find between two programs that were really struggling a couple years ago. Whoever comes out of 4A North will have earned it, as there will be no easy games on this side of the bracket.

It took a few years, but longtime coach Dale Pruitt has gotten Plainview turned around in his second tenure at the school, giving the Bears their second undefeated regular season in school history and their first playoff win since 2020. They've got the 3rd best scoring offense in Class 4A at 44.3 points per game and have scored at least 34 points in 10 straight games. Plainview hasn't reached the Quarterfinals since 2010.

Alexandria shockingly went 1-9 two seasons ago, and people were burying this program. They came back and won a playoff game last season following a 7-3 regular season. This year the Valley Cubs went 9-1 with the lone loss by two points to undefeated Anniston. This is a dark horse contender to reach the state championship, and they'll be even better next year when they return most of their team.

Plainview has had a great season under Coach Pruitt, but Alexandria is going to surprise people this postseason. I think they'll win this one by a couple scores, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them in Birmingham.

Prediction:  Alexandria 42, Plainview 28

 St. Clair County (0-0) at
 Scottsboro (0-0)
at Pat Trammell Stadium
St. Clair County   Scottsboro
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
5A-R6  Class/Region 5A-R8
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
72.4  Power Rating 70.6
AHSFHS Power Ratings have the teams as even.

Last Meeting:   The Scottsboro Wildcats defeated St. Clair County by a score of 42-6 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Scottsboro and St. Clair County have met one time on the field.... Scottsboro holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: These two teams are likely the two clear favorites now to reach the semifinals from this corner of the bracket in Class 5A following Ramsay's loss to Jacksonville, although Fairview could factor in as well.

Scottsboro is a run heavy team largely driven by Running Back Jacobi Edmonson. The senior has over 1,600 yards on over 200 carries and has rushed for at least 100 yards in eight of their eleven games. Their young Sophomore QB Colton Harding has thrown for almost 1,200 yards and 11 TDs, so they can also throw the ball when needed. In his second year at Sylvania, Coach Tyler Vann took his team to the semifinals. It's his second year at Scottsboro, so can he do the same for the Wildcats? Their corner of the bracket seems wide open for any of the remaining teams to make a run.

In contrast to Scottsboro, St. Clair County does most of their damage through the air. Junior Quarterback Landyn Smith is one of the top QBs in Class 5A with 2,395 yards and 33 TDs to just 6 interceptions on the season. His favorite target is Junior WR Joshua Douthard, who has 70 catches for 1,077 yards and 19 TDs. They've been held under 40 points just twice all season, although one of those was the baffling 55-0 loss to Moody. They have needed to win a couple of shootout games, so their defense isn't great, but I expect them to be able to put some points up against most teams.

I think this is one of the more even matchups of the week, and the power ratings agree. Even when I was filling out my bracket I went back and forth on it, but at the moment I think St. Clair's ability to throw the ball will be tough for most 5A teams to defend.

Prediction:  St. Clair Co. 42, Scottsboro 35

 Hartselle (0-0) at
 Homewood (0-0)
at Waldrop Stadium
Hartselle   Homewood
0-0 (0-0)  Record 0-0 (0-0)
5A-R7  Class/Region 5A-R4
NR  ASWA Ranking NR
81.5  Power Rating 84.2
AHSFHS Power Ratings have Homewood as a 5 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Homewood Patriots defeated Hartselle by a score of 31-24 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Homewood and Hartselle have met 4 times on the field.... Homewood holds a 4-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Comments: Both of these teams come in with just a single loss on the season and could be dark horse candidates to reach Birmingham.

Homewood is a crazy Hail Mary 2-point conversion by Mountain Brook away from being undefeated. They haven't played the toughest schedule, but they do have several good wins over Briarwood, Parker, and now Pell City following their 1st Round win. QB Kaleb Carson is one of the top QBs in the state with 2,265 yards and 26 TDs on the season for the Patriots. He also leads the team with 11 rushing TDs, with Junior RB Jackson Chapleau in a close second with 10 rushing scores. The Patriots defense may not be as good as their opponents', but they're still one of the top top defensive units in Class 6A, allowing just 12.7 points per game.

Hartselle has one of the top defenses in Class 6A and have allowed more than 14 points in a game just once-their 31-17 loss to undefeated Muscle Shoals. They're allowing just 8.7 points per game, good enough for 4th in 6A. This is a team with a lot of Senior contributors, including Quarterback Carter Lee, who has thrown for nearly 1,500 yards and 14 TDs on the season. The Tigers have bowed out in the 2nd Round each of the last two years, and they've never beaten Homewood in three tries, so the odds would seem to be stacked against them.

I think this will be a defensive game where each team will only get three or four legitimate scoring chances at most. I think Hartselle with their ground game is built for this kind of game, but I don't know that it'll be enough to overcome Homewood's home field advantage.

Prediction:  Homewood 21, Hartselle 17

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Montgomery Academy as a 19 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Montgomery Academy Eagles defeated Lee-Scott Academy by a score of 38-0 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Montgomery Academy and Lee-Scott Academy have met one time on the field.... Montgomery Academy holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    The battle of private schools takes place in Montgomery this Friday night. Lee Scott has had a great season and is looking to continue their season when they travel to McLemore Field to take on the Eagles.

Montgomery Academy has been in cruise control ever since their only loss to Luverne. If they win this game they likely have a date with Bayside Academy. Now Lee Scott runs a very modern offense with a lot of spread. So does Montgomery Academy.

We have seen time and time again in the playoffs when a star player takes over in these lower classifications. Braden Gordon the four star edge rusher and wildcat quarterback for the Eagles might be the guy to do that for Montgomery Academy. I think Montgomery Academy has the better players and takes home the victory at home.

Give me the Eagles to win.

Prediction:  Montgomery Academy 35 Lee Scott 24

AHSFHS Power Ratings have Glenwood School as a 13 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Glenwood School Gators defeated Trinity by a score of 40-7 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   Glenwood School and Trinity have met 4 times on the field.... Glenwood School holds a 4-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Another great matchup between two private schools. This one taking place outside of Phenix City.

Trinity is historically a tough team to beat, I would know I played them more times than I can count in my life. Glenwood is new to the AHSAA but has dominated regular season play. They won their first ever AHSAA playoff game last week against Thomasville. Trinity is a very good team and also very well coached.

To beat Glenwood, you have to be able to run the ball effectively on them. Easier said than done, but I do believe the Wildcats rich history of winning and playoff success carry them to an upset victory.

Give me Trinity by a field goal.

Prediction:  Trinity 24 Glenwood 20

AHSFHS Power Ratings have University Charter School as a 16 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The Southern Choctaw Indians defeated University Charter School by a score of 26-12 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   University Charter School and Southern Choctaw have met one time on the field.... Southern Choctaw holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    Look at the difference in histories between these two schools. Larry Boykin leading Southern Choctaw in the playoffs, something we've said many times throughout history.

Versus Sam Mosely and the Trail Blazers, looking to blaze their path to history. They just won their first playoff game last week, Southern Choctaw has won plenty of playoff games in their playoff history.

The Trail Blazers run the Wing T and run it very well. With a stable of four running backs so no one gets too worn down, it's not hard to see how they are so well rested for a 1A team. Southern Choctaw is a very physical team that will play hard and be stingy on defense.

I think we're gonna get a very physical football game here, but I think the fresher team wins. Give me another University Charter victory!

Prediction:  University Charter 16 Southern Choctaw 14

AHSFHS Power Ratings have W.S. Neal as a 12 point favorite.

Last Meeting:   The W.S. Neal Eagles defeated American Christian by a score of 35-7 in the second round of the playoffs on the road  on Fri., Nov. 14 during the 2025 football season.

Series:   W.S. Neal and American Christian have met one time on the field.... W.S. Neal holds a 1-0 edge in the games played.

Comments:    The Patriots from American Christian make the long drive down to East Brewton to take on WS Neal. It feels like WS Neal is getting better every single week.

American Christian has not been bad, but I do worry about their region they played in. It is no secret how good Region 1 was in 4A with St Michael, Jackson, and Mobile Christian.

I can not say the same about Region 4. WS Neal played those games close as well for the most part, they're a really good team and while American Christian can cause problems with their passing attack, I think the WS Neal Eagles win and advance!

This is due to tougher opponents, iron sharpens iron.

Prediction:  WS Neal 27 American Christian 13

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Morris Higginbotham coached three different teams to divisional state championships in the 1950s. He won titles at Walnut Grove in 1952, West Blocton in 1955 and Enterprise in 1960.
