Pisgah holds a 37-17 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Pisgah comes in 6-2 and undefeated in region looking to cap off their second straight region title. They're coming off a blowout win over Gaston 48 to 6. Mays was limited only throwing 7 passes all night, but that was for 145 yards and 3 TD's. I'd say that is pretty efficient. |
North Sand Mountain 7-1 (4-1) is looking to force a three way tie atop the region by knocking off the Eagles. The Bison led Pleasant Valley last week 20 to 7, only to fall after Pleasant Valley scored 35 of the last 42 points. Kade Davis carried the ball 20 times for 135 yards and 2 TD's. |
NSM certainly had every opportunity to win last week but couldn't close it out. Pisgah is a team who has been there and done that before and I think that while I like some of the matchups for the Bison, ultimately Pisgah just has that experience that will carry them over the finish line. |

Lauderdale County holds a 26-9 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Colbert Heights is trying to force a tie for 3rd spot in the region (assuming Rogers takes care of business) by knocking off Lauderdale County. The Wildcats are on a 4 game losing streak, after starting off 5-0. They're coming off a beat down from Mars Hill 55-0, which saw the Panthers lead by that mark at the half. |
Lauderdale County just skimmed by Rogers 39 to 37, in an absolute classic of a game that saw Calvin Watkins pick up 217 yards on the ground and 4 TD's. The Tigers did allow Rogers to put up a lot of yards and points. |
Colbert Heights dream season quickly turned into a nightmare. However, here they have a chance to salvage something. Lauderdale County's secondary really had trouble with Rogers passing game last week, but the Wildcats do not boast near as good of a passing game as the Pirates. Plus with Lauderdale getting healthier, I just think they're the far better team here. |

Series:

Hoover holds a 39-22 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Hoover stands at 6-3 (4-2) and looking to keep their homefield chances alive although very slim there are scenarios where they could wind up with such. They're coming off a big win over Thompson 33-30. The theme this week appears to be efficiency as Freeman only threw 9 passes but connected on 6 for 167 yards. |
Vestavia Hills 6-2 (4-2) are also trying to remain alive for a home playoff spot. Vestavia jumped out to a 39 point lead at the half this past week, and finished off Tuscaloosa County 56 to 10. Major Weaver had 2 TD's on the ground while amassing 76 yards. |
The big question here is does Hoover extend their win streak to 6 or do they suffer a letdown after last week's emotional win over rival Thompson. Hoover has been here before, so I don't think the moment will be too big for them. Vestavia being at home obviously may give them a bit of an advantage but I like the Hoover receiving corps. Tabb and Winston are both phenomenal and lineup all over the place. I think they'll be a lot for the Rebels to handle. |

Shoals Christian 3-5 (3-3) looked IMO, to the be the front runner for the 4 seed early on and has done what's been expected. They're coming off an expected drubbing at the hands of Hackleburg 50 to 20. |
Knox Benson has shown some flashes not only on offense but on special teams for the Flame. He may one of the better players on the field Friday night, but I like Waterloo's size and physicality a little more. It could definitely go either way. |

Series:
Wadley and Winterboro have met 24 times on the field....
Wadley holds a 18-5 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Comments: Well we have the first of several matchups between undefeated teams across the state this week. Wadley won this one handily last year, but Winterboro comes in as a top five team this year and might be the best team Wadley will have faced so far. |
Wadley is exhibit A for a team that isn't going to throw the ball unless they have to do so. I don't think they've even thrown 30 passes total this season. But when you've got a duo like RBs Jaquez Wilkes and Cortavion Lynch running the ball, there's no reason to throw it. Those two combined for at least 24 rushing scores in the Bulldogs' first six games. Another key player for Wadley is two-way player #4 Frisco Robertson. Wadley has just been destroying teams all year long. The only close game they've played was a 35-21 win over 3A Glenwood. |
This might be the best team in school history for Winterboro. They've reached the 2nd Round of the playoffs in five of the last seven years, but they haven't reached the Quarterfinals since 2005. But the Bulldogs come into this one at 7-0 despite the fact that they haven't had a true home game this season. Their stadium was damaged during a tornado back in the Spring, so they've played their three home games at Childersburg. Their offense is extremely balanced. QB Jalarrion Garrett has thrown for over 1,200 yards and 17 TDs, while three different players have more than 300 yards on the ground, led by Sophomore RB Jamari Nicks with 499 yards and 10 TDs. Nicks is a budding star who holds a scholarship offer from Tennessee, among others schools. |
Winterboro is one of the few 1A teams that will be able to match Wadley's size and speed, and they might be one of the most well-rounded team in Class 1A. The real issue for them is Wadley has Jaquez Wilkes and they don't, which as it has all year, will likely make the difference. |

|
|
| Comments: Comments: Region championships are on the line across the state this week, including in this matchup. It has been a while since either of these teams has won one-2017 for Goshen and 2019 for Luverne. |
That 2017 region championship is the only region title for Goshen since 2001. But they come into this matchup at 6-1 and with an opportunity to end that region title drought. That will be a tall task as they take on Luverne, who has been one of the top teams in Class 2A all season. The Eagles have a dynamic rushing tandem in QB Grant Taylor, with 80 carries for 441 yards and 6 TDs, and RB Jaylon Vinson with 81 carries for 586 yards and 8 TDs. One player to watch on this team is WR/DB JD Burney. According to MaxPreps, this kid has recorded 13 interceptions in seven games, and he's forced at least one fumble. |
Luverne leads all classes in points per game with an average of 61. When you pair that with the 2nd-ranked scoring defense in Class 2A, you get a team that leads the entire state with an average margin of victory of over 52 points. They beat ranked 3A team Montgomery Academy 48-45 a few weeks ago, and aside from that, their closest game was a 61-13 victory over Highland Home. For more context on the greatness of this offense-the second most points Montgomery Academy has allowed in a game this year is 12. The individual statistics for the Tigers are just as incredible. Six different players have at least 4 rushing TDs. QB Kane Smith leads the team in rushing yards (497), rushing TDs (11), and has also thrown for 1,100 yards and 22 TDs. He might be the player of the year so far in Class 2A. |
Goshen is having a great year and will have a chance to reach the 2nd Round of the playoffs for the third straight year. However, they'll have to do it as a 2-seed, as I just don't see them keeping up with the firepower of Luverne. Quite frankly, I'm not convinced anyone in 2A will have the firepower to keep up with them. |

Series:

Madison Academy holds a 5-1 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Comments: Another region championship is on the line in this one as Plainview seeks their first region championship since 2017. To achieve this, they'll have to pull off their first victory ever over Madison Academy, who has won a region championship in twelve of the last sixteen years. |
There might not be a quieter undefeated team in the state at this point than Plainview. They Bears boast the 4th best scoring offense in Class 4A at 44.3 points per game, along with the 11th-ranked scoring defense at 15.9 points per game. They've largely been dominating their opponents, as they've yet to play in a one-score game. The Bears haven't made it past the 2nd Round of the playoffs since 2010, binning a region championship will go a long way towards ending that drought. |
Madison Academy hasn't gone consecutive years without winning a region championship since 2007-2008. That streak is at stake this week as the Mustangs face a Plainview squad that gave them all they could handle a year ago. While they have the 3rd highest-scoring offense in Class 4A at 45 points per game, their defense is less stellar, giving up over 25 points per game, including twice allowing 50+ points in a game. |
We all know the quality of program Madison Academy has been for well over a decade at this point, but they've been much less dominant in recent years compared to what they once were. This appears to be Plainview's best team in nearly a decade, if not longer, and although they are 0-5 all-time against the Mustangs, I think Coach Dale Pruitt's squad gets the job done. |

| Prediction: Plainview 47, Madison Academy 39 |

Series:
Hartselle and Muscle Shoals have met 32 times on the field....
Hartselle holds a 17-14 edge in the games played.
|
|
| Comments: Comments: It seems like this region comes down to these two teams every year, and this year is no different. This is the third time in the last five years both teams come into this matchup undefeated. |
Hartselle comes into this game ranking 7th in Class 6A in scoring offense, at 38.4 points per game, and 3rd in scoring defense, allowing just 7.3 points per game. The Tigers are a run-heavy team, keeping the ball on the ground about 65% of the time. Their top two Running Backs are Jaheim Pruitt, with 87 carries for 604 yards and 8 TDS, and Jayden Morris, with 77 carries for 387 yards and 5 TDs. Quarterback Carter also had 5 rushing TDs to go with 9 TDs through the air. |
Muscle Shoals has been extremely impressive all year. They come into this one ranked 4th in Class 6A in scoring offense at 39.6 points per game, and they are the top scoring defense in 6A, allowing just 4.9 points per game. They allowed double digits last week for the first time all season and still only gave up 15 to Jasper, all of which came in garbage time in the 4th quarter. This team is led by multiple future college stars, including 4-Star Edge Rusher and Alabama commit Kamhariyan Johnson, 3-Star Safety and Arkansas commit Keivay Foster, and QB Kade Clemmons with multiple offers. |
I think a big factor in this one will be preparation. Hartselle is coming off an emotional battle with Jasper that went down to the final play. Meanwhile, Muscle Shoals is coming off a bye week. The game being in Hartselle evens the playing field a bit, but I just think Muscle Shoals will prove to be the better team. |

|
|
| Comments: Well two teams that I don't think many would had picked to be undefeated up to this point. Maybe Southside Selma because of their Cinderella run last year, or maybe it wasn't a Cinderella story, by the way that they have been playing this season. |
Thorsby however I don't even think the Rebel faithful could had predicted this. They are off to the best start in program history and have won 8 straight games which is the most in school history. One of these schools is going to win a region title, either for the first time ever which would be for Thorsby, or for the first time since 1989 for Southside Selma. |
My viewpoint of this game, is this is a really bad matchup for Thorsby. Southside Selma's wide receiving core is very tall, and athletic. They are massive for 3A standards, heck, even for any classification below 6A in my opinion. Thorsby I feel can score points, and I feel they can turn over the Panther offense, but I don't know how long they can hold up till the offense gets rolling. |
Give me the Panthers to win their first region title since 1989. |

| Comments: The region of doom and despair strikes once again. Straughn needs this win, bad. Opp needs it to win the region. But this region, you never really know what to expect. Most of these games you can flip a coin 10 times and it would be about as accurate. |
They are all just very balanced and very evenly matched. No one can really overwhelm the other team. Nothing about this region surprises me anymore. Something new happens every week. |
But I think Opp is slightly better than the rest of the region, I think that boils down to coaching. They have Coach Ed Rigsby on their sideline, and I think he is the ultimate factor in an Opp victory. |

| Comments: This is a very intriguing matchup. Neither team gets much of, if any, media coverage so you would never realize these two teams have had great seasons with their only losses coming to good 5A teams like Eufaula and Central Clay. |
Marquez Daniel leads the Golden Eagles squad. He is a matchup nightmare for anyone, at a towering 6'6 tall playing wide receiver and defensive back. Handley does what Handley knows, they run the football. BT Washington can balance it out a little bit more. |
The game is being played in Tuskegee, but I think the Handley run defense can stop the golden eagle rushing attack, making them one dimensional, The Golden Eagles will score, but I think Handley will outlast them. |

| Comments: What a great game this has been in the past few years. Catholic was dead and buried about a month ago, but has revived itself, and has put itself in a good position to potentially host a playoff game. |
Andalusia wasn't their standard self last year, but this year's team looks much more like what we come to expect with the Bulldogs. Historically Andalusia is one of those teams that when it comes playoffs, you don't really want to play them. |
Catholic Montgomery hasn't lost a playoff game since they lost to Andalusia back in 2022. But this isn't the playoffs, this is the regular season, and while Catholic has improved greatly over the season, I think Andalusia will defeat the Knights. |
