Opp completed the 2025 season with a 9-2 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region two, the Bobcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2025. Opp's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to W.S. Neal by a score of 35-14. Since 2010, Opp has gone a combined 100-77. Their 56.5% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 3A over the past sixteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Opp has managed to compile a record of 140-135. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 3A and 190th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Ed Rigby resigned his position as the head football coach at Opp in December to accept the head coaching job at Pike County. Rigby spent the last two seasons leading the Bobcats to a combined 16-6 record. The Bobcats will be in search of their fifth head coach in the past seven years. 2026 Head Coach: Les Sanders will be up next at Opp as the head football coach following a long search for the right hire. Over his 13 years of coaching, Sanders has compiled a record of 80-62 at Luverne and Geneva. He has served as an assistant at Opp the past few years. Over the course of his career, Coach Sanders' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won one region championship. Season Outlook: The Opp Bobcats will play in Class 3A region one during the 2026 season. The Bobcats from Opp will take the field this fall with the fifth different head coach in the last seven seasons. Through all the changes they just continue to win football games despite the turnover of coaches. Opp will be joined in Region One by defending state champs Jackson, T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal. Matthew Morgan rushed for 886 yards and 12 TDs and will return for his Senior season. The Bobcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2018 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2026.
Season Opener: The Bobcats open the 2026 season on the road against non-region opponent New Brockton on Friday, August 21 at Gamecck Stadium. Last year the New Brockton Gamecocks finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 4A region two. Opp and New Brockton have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 6-1-0 record against the Gamecocks. They last met in 2025 with Opp winning by a score of 49-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
