Percy Julian finished the 2025 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Percy Julian finished sixth in Class 6A region two with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Percy Julian was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Phoenix want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.8 points a game. Since 2010, Percy Julian has gone a combined 73-94. Their 43.7% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 5A over the past sixteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Percy Julian has managed to compile a record of 101-161. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 5A and 295th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Kenneth White leaves Percy Julian with a couple of seasons under his belt. The Phoenix finished 8-12 in those two seasons with one playoff loss. 2026 Head Coach: Fred Farrier served as the head coach at Hazel Green the past season and a half. He will make the move south in 2026 as the head coach at Percy Julian in Montgomery. Season Outlook: The Percy Julian Phoenix will play in Class 5A region two during the 2026 season. The Phoenix hope to turn things around at the Montgomery school with a coaching change. It's been a long time since Coach Spence McCracken left for Opelika following the 1994 football season. Since that time the once proud football program has struggled for consistency on the field. Over the past twenty-five seasons they have qualified for the playoffs in back-to-back seasons only two times. Ten head coaching changes has done little to create any stability in the program. Earnest Shuford completed 75 of 158 passes for 922 yards and 10 TDs and will return for his Junior season. The Phoenix will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Season Opener:
The Phoenix open the 2026 season on the road against non-region opponent Carver Montgomery on Thursday, August 20 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Carver Montgomery Wolverines finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fourth place in Class 7A region two. The Wolverines lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Thompson by a score of 31-7.
Percy Julian and Carver Montgomery have met a total of 62 times on the football field. The Phoenix have a 36-26-0 record against the Wolverines. They last met in 2025 with Carver Montgomery winning by a score of 39-6.
