 2026 Preview 


       Leroy completed the 2025 season with a 13-1 record. The Bears cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Leroy captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Leroy made a nice playoff run in 2025, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Maplesville team by the score of 59-18.

       The high-scoring Leroy offense ranked 10th in the AHSAA. They averaged 45.5 points a game.

       Over the past two seasons the Bears have Finished 23-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Leroy has gone a combined 143-59. Their 70.8% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 1A over the past sixteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Leroy has finished a combined 245-80. Their 75.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 1A and 17th in the AHSAA. The Bears have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.

Head Coach:
       The Bears are led by head coach Chan Lowe who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 23-3 over the past two seasons at Leroy. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Lowe.

Season Outlook:

       The Leroy Bears will play in Class 1A region one during the 2026 season.

       Leroy will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

       The Bears enter the 2026 season riding a 19 game regular season winning streak. They have won 13 straight games on their home turf at Bobby Farish Field at Palmer Stadium.

       The Leroy Bear fell short of their season goal of winning a state championship in 2025. That only means they will working harder this year to get back to the title game in 2026. It seems the Bears are always in the hunt for another Blue Map.

       Jace Sellers completed 136 of 214 passes for 2,194 yards and 29 TDs and will return for his Junior season. Cory Yelder caught 39 passes for 818 yards and 9 TDs and will be returning for his Senior season.



    The Bears enter the season with expectations of not only a region crown but will be contending for a trip to the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region one and should be a team considered a favorite to reach the Class 1A AHSAA Championship game in December.

Season Opener:
       The Bears open the 2026 season on the road against non-region opponent Thomasville on Friday, August 21 at Anderson Field. Last year the Thomasville Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 3A region three. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Glenwood School by a score of 43-10.

       Leroy and Thomasville have met a total of 55 times on the football field. The Bears have a 14-40-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2025 with Leroy winning by a score of 52-34.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
