2026 Preview

Keith finished the 2025 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Keith finished sixth in Class 1A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.        The Bears lost as many games as in any season since 2015.        Keith was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bears want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.2 points a game.        Keith struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 37.7 points a game.        Since 2010, Keith has gone a combined 92-83. Their 52.6% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 1A over the past sixteen seasons.        Over the past 25 seasons, Keith has managed to compile a record of 120-146. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 1A and 244th in the AHSAA. Head Coach:        The Bears are led by head coach Anthony Lumpkin who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 47-41 over the past eight seasons at Keith. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won one region crown with Coach Lumpkin. Season Outlook:        The Keith Bears will play in Class 1A region three during the 2026 season.               The Bears enter the 2026 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.            The Bears could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Keith came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

Season Opener:
       The Bears open the 2026 season on the road against non-region opponent Calhoun on Friday, August 21 at Samuel Bruce Stadium. Last year the Calhoun Tigers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 2A region three. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Central Hayneville by a score of 62-9 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Keith and Calhoun have met a total of 22 times on the football field. The Bears have a 17-5-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2025 with Keith winning by a score of 54-36.
