2026 Preview

Buckhorn completed the 2025 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region eight, the Bucks earned a spot in the playoffs in 2025. Buckhorn's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hartselle by a score of 33-7.        The Bucks won as many games as in any season since 2007. The Bucks last playoff victory came during the 2005 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.        Since 2010, Buckhorn has gone a combined 76-93. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 6A over the past sixteen seasons.        Over the past 25 seasons, Buckhorn has managed to compile a record of 126-142. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 6A and 223rd in the AHSAA. Head Coach:        The Bucks are led by head coach David Green who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 7-4 record in his first season at Buckhorn. The Bucks saw improvement from a 6-5 record the season before coach Green arrived. Under his direction the Bucks have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Green. Season Outlook:        The Buckhorn Bucks will play in Class 6A region four during the 2026 season.               The Bucks remain in Class 6A but are joined by many of the teams from last year's 7A classification. Four consecutive playoff appearances look good on the resume but Buckhorn last won a playoff game back in 2005 more than twenty years ago when they lost to Homewood in the 5A state championship game.        The offense looks to be in good hands with the return of two key players at the skill positions. Parker Turley completed 182 of 286 passes for 2,114 yards and 10 TDs and will return for his Junior season. Djone Rosario rushed for 1,038 yards and 8 TDs and will also be returning for his Senior season.     The Bucks have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region four this season.

Season Opener:
       The Bucks open the 2026 season at home against non-region opponent Decatur on Friday, August 21 at Tommy R. Ledbetter Stadium. Last year the Decatur Red Raiders finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 6A region seven.

       Buckhorn and Decatur have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Bucks have a 6-7-0 record against the Red Raiders. They last met in 2025 with Buckhorn winning by a score of 27-12.
