2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Westminster Christian completed the 2023 season with a 11-3 record. Last year Westminster Christian captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Westminster Christian made a nice playoff run in 2023, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Cherokee County team by the score of 50-6. No team at Westminster Christian ever won more games in a season than the eleven victories last year. The 586 points scored by the Wildcats last year were a team record in a single season. The Wildcats hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach LeBlanc saw improvement as they won eleven games following a 6-5 record in 2022. The high-scoring Westminster Christian offense ranked 17th in the AHSAA. They averaged 41.9 points a game. Since 2010, Westminster Christian has gone a combined 92-60. Their 60.5% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 19 seasons, Westminster Christian has managed to compile a record of 109-92. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 4A and 158th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Westminster Christian lost 4A All-State athlete Brandon Musch to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Head Coach: The Wildcats are led by head coach Louis LeBlanc who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 53-36 over the past eight seasons at Westminster Christian. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won three region crowns with Coach LeBlanc. Season Outlook: The Westminster Christian Wildcats will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2024 season. The Wildcats will need to find a replacement for graduated quarterback Brandon Musch in August if they have hopes of repeating the success of last season. He accounted for over 4,400 yards of their offense in 2023. Westminster finished last season with an impressive 11-3 record which ties the school record for wins in a season. The offense put up 586 points which is remarkable. But the defense allowed 445. The defense gave up less than 27 points in only three games. Without Musch who totaled 4,015 yards and 63 touchdowns the offense will drop off more than likely so the defense will need to see some improvement for the Wildcats to once again find themselves back in the playoffs in 2024. The Wildcats have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region eight this season. Season Opener: The Wildcats open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent East Limestone on Friday, August 23 at Earl Van Dyke Stadium. Last year the East Limestone Indians finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 5A region eight. The Indians ended last season on a positive note with a win over Mae Jemison by a score of 29-28 after failing to gain a playoff spot. This will be the second meeting between Westminster Christian and East Limestone on the football field. The Wildcats have a 1-0-0 record against the Indians.
