2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Thorsby completed the 2023 season with a 9-3 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region four, the Rebels earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Thorsby reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Reeltown by a score of 48-14. No team at Thorsby ever won more games in a season than the nine victories last year. The 406 points scored by the Rebels last year were a team record in a single season. Since 2010, Thorsby has gone a combined 77-74. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Thorsby has managed to compile a record of 115-148. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 3A and 257th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Thorsby lost 2A All-State running back Coden Cummings to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. Head Coach: The Rebels are led by head coach Daryl Davis who is entering his twelveth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 61-57 over the past eleven seasons at Thorsby. Under his direction the Rebels have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Davis. Season Outlook: The Thorsby Rebels will play in Class 3A region three during the 2024 season. The Rebels move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. Thorsby enters the 2024 season with a string of 8 consecutive wins on their home field at Susan Bentley Field. The Rebels return a few starters who will help them make the transition from 2A up to 3A this season. Thorsby has been a solid program making the playoffs each of the past seven seasons and have produced a winning record each year. The move to region 3 should not be a problem as they will be competitive from the start. McManus is solid at quarterback and will provide a spark to the offense in 2024. The Rebels should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2016 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2024. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Grayson McManus will be returning for his senior season after completing 63-of-116 passes for 1,026 yards and 9 TDs last season. McManus ran for 1,117 yards and 13 TDs. MLB Malachi Allgood collected 163 tackles (64 solo) including 6 sacks and will be back for his senior season. MLB Tyler Lockhart also had 115 tackles (43 solo) and will be back for his senior season. LB Grayson McManus also had 91 tackles (36 solo) on defense. Returning Starters: QB Grayson McManus, MLB Malachi Allgood, MLB Tyler Lockhart, DB/WR Aiden Seeley, QB/DB Braylon Carroll, RB Chris Buendtner, RB/LB Manuel Castillo, RB/LB Brooks Barnett Season Opener: The Rebels open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Isabella on Thursday, August 22 at Bill Nabors Stadium. Last year the Isabella Mustangs finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in third place in Class 2A region four. The Mustangs lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Cottonwood by a score of 24-23. Thorsby and Isabella have met a total of 59 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 21-38-0 record against the Mustangs. They last met in 2023 with Thorsby winning by a score of 50-43. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
