UMS-Wright completed the 2022 season with a 12-1 record. The Bulldogs cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year UMS-Wright captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 8-0 record. UMS-Wright lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Charles Henderson team by a score of 19-16.

The defense was very stingy last season as UMS-Wright ranked 26th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.8 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Bulldogs have Finished 23-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, UMS-Wright has gone a combined 144-31. Their 82.3% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, UMS-Wright has finished a combined 276-64. Their 81.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 5A and 4th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2007.

The Bulldogs are led by head coach Terry Curtis who is entering his twenty-fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 271-57 over the past twenty-four seasons at UMS-Wright. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-four times. They have won seventeen region crowns with Coach Curtis. Coach Curtis has won eight state championships at UMS-Wright, the last coming in 2019. His 348 wins rank 1st among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Curtis' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of times and won twenty region championships. He has a 81-23 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches.

The Bulldogs navigated the regular season schedule in their first year in Class 5A but ran into a talented and very good Charles Henderson team in the playoffs. Make no mistake Coach Curtis will have his squad ready for another run at a state title in 2023.

The Bulldogs enter the 2023 season having won 14 straight region games.

The Bulldogs are considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 1993 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

Jeff Holston will lead the defense this season after collecting 99 total tackles last season.

The Bulldogs open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent St. Pauls on Friday, August 25 at Ervin S. Cooper Stadium. Last year the St. Pauls Saints finished with an overall record of 7-6 and in fourth place in Class 6A region one. The Saints lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Theodore by a score of 28-0.
