 2023 Preview 


       Robertsdale finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Robertsdale finished ninth in Class 6A region one with a 0-8 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Golden Bears have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2004 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Golden Bears last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Robertsdale averaged scoring just 12.5 points a game. The Golden Bears also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 42.6 points a game.

       The Golden Bears would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Robertsdale football program has struggled with a record of 28-101.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Robertsdale has not won much with a record of 65-189. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 6A and 369th in the AHSAA. The Golden Bears have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2001.




       The Golden Bears are led by head coach Kyle Stanford who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-31 over the past four seasons at Robertsdale. The Golden Bears have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Stanford.

       The Golden Bears enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 14 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       This season, the Golden Bears will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Robertsdale will be to simply win some games.

       The Golden Bears open the 2023 season at home against region opponent Theodore on Friday, September 1 at J.D. Sellers Stadium. Last year the Theodore Bobcats finished with an overall record of 13-1 and in first place in Class 6A region one. The Bobcats lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Saraland by a score of 21-6.

       Robertsdale and Theodore have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Golden Bears have a 0-2-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2022 with Theodore winning by a score of 34-0.
