 2023 Preview

Meek completed the 2022 season with a 11-1 record. The Tigers cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Meek captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Tigers since the 1990 season. Meek reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Pickens County by a score of 44-36.

No team at Meek ever won more games in a season than the eleven victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 1986. The 532 points scored by the Tigers last year were a team record in a single season.

The high-scoring Meek offense ranked 6th in the AHSAA. They averaged 44.3 points a game.

The Tigers defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 25th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 13.8 points a game.

Since 2010, Meek has gone a combined 58-79. Their 42.3% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Meek has managed to compile a record of 102-160. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 1A and 295th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Daniel Evans as they enter the 2023 season.  As Meeks offensive coordinator, Evans, a 2009 Curry High School graduate, led the Tigers to their highest point total (532) in school history last year.

The Tigers tied the record for most wins in a season last year with eleven. They appear to have the talent to continue their amazing turn around but will do it with a new head coach.

The Tigers enter the 2023 season riding a 12 game regular season winning streak.

The Tigers are considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Cameron Deaver will be back this season at running back after rushing for 2,299 yards and 32 TDs in 2022.

The defense will be led by Junior Braylen Roberts this season after collecting 83 total tackles last season.

The Tigers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Maplesville on Friday, August 25 at Red Devil Stadium. Last year the Maplesville Red Devils finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in first place in Class 1A region four. The Red Devils lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Leroy by a score of 33-8.

Meek and Maplesville have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-0-0 record against the Red Devils. They last met in 2022 with Meek winning by a score of 36-12.

Meek lost 1A All-State  offensive lineman Tyler Cooper to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

The Tigers return 1A All-State Senior running back Cam Deaver. He was named to the first team last season. The Tigers also return Junior defensive lineman Braylen Roberts. He was named to the first team.
