 2023 Preview

Hatton completed the 2022 season with a 7-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region eight, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Hatton's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Pisgah by a score of 40-20.

The Hornets won as many games as in any season since 2014. The Hornets last playoff victory came during the 2002 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Since 2010, Hatton has gone a combined 58-75. Their 43.6% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Hatton has managed to compile a record of 115-144. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 2A and 250th in the AHSAA.

The Hornets are led by head coach Denton Bowling who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 34-38 over the past seven seasons at Hatton. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bowling.

The Hornets have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region eight this season.

The Hornets open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Wilson on Friday, August 25 at Ralph Thompson Stadium. Last year the Wilson Warriors finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 4A region seven. The Warriors closed out the regular season with a loss to Lawrence County by a score of 28-27.

Hatton and Wilson have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 11-3-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2022 with Hatton winning by a score of 30-19.

Hatton lost 2A All-State  offensive lineman Braden Stafford to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.
