2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fayette County completed the 2022 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region five, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Fayette County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Sylvania by a score of 35-6. Since 2010, Fayette County has gone a combined 111-52. Their 68.1% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Fayette County has finished a combined 208-92. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 3A and 44th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. The Tigers are led by head coach Jared Porter who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-3 record in his first season at Fayette County. The Tigers saw improvement from a 6-5 record the season before coach Porter arrived. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Porter. The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. The Tigers open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Cordova on Thursday, August 24 at John Morgan Brown Stadium. Last year the Cordova Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 4A region five. The Blue Devils ended last season on a positive note with a win over Carver Birmingham by a score of 41-18 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Fayette County and Cordova have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 10-2-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2022 with Fayette County winning by a score of 28-24. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
