 2023 Preview

Douglas completed the 2022 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Douglas just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region seven with a 2-4 region record.

The Eagles have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2023.

Since 2010, the Douglas football program has struggled with a record of 39-92.

Over the past 25 seasons, Douglas has not won much with a record of 63-189. Their 25.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 5A and 371st in the AHSAA.

The Eagles are led by head coach Brandon Lyles who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 15-16 over the past three seasons at Douglas. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lyles.

Coach Lyles has the Eagles heading in the right direction with back to back winning seasons for the first time since 1977.

The Eagles have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region seven this season. Douglas came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

Jaycob Calloway will lead the defense this season after collecting 111 total tackles last season.

The Eagles open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Susan Moore on Friday, August 25 at Larry Patterson Field. Last year the Susan Moore Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 3A region seven. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Cleveland by a score of 14-12.

Douglas and Susan Moore have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 6-10-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Douglas winning by a score of 37-7.
