 2023 Preview 


       Brooks completed the 2022 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Brooks just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region seven with a 4-3 region record.

       The Lions hope to get back closer to the 12-1 record in 2021.

       Since 2010, Brooks has gone a combined 102-46. Their 68.9% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Brooks has finished a combined 207-83. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 4A and 33rd in the AHSAA. The Lions have been successful on the football field with twenty-four winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1998.




       The Lions are led by head coach Tim Bowens who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-4 record in his first season at Brooks. The Lions have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bowens. Over the course of his career, Coach Bowens' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Lions have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 65-48 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 4A and 41st in the AHSAA.

       The Lions have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region seven this season. Brooks came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Lions open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Colbert County on Thursday, August 24 at E.D. Redding Stadium. Last year the Colbert County Indians finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in third place in Class 3A region eight. The Indians lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Piedmont by a score of 42-20.

       Brooks and Colbert County have met a total of 15 times on the football field. The Lions have a 5-10-0 record against the Indians. They last met in 2022 with Brooks winning by a score of 48-21.

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
