 2023 Preview 


       Bessemer Academy finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record.

       The Rebels lost as many games as in any season since 2012.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Bessemer Academy has gone a combined 117-45. Their 72.2% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class AAA over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Bessemer Academy has finished a combined 237-73. Their 76.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AAA and 1st in the AISA. The Rebels have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.




       The Rebels are led by head coach Jonathan Wright who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-15 over the past two seasons at Bessemer Academy. Under his direction the Rebels have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wright.

      

       The Rebels open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Banks Academy on Friday, August 25. Last year the Banks Academy Jets finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class AA region two. The Jets lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Edgewood Academy by a score of 14-7.

       Bessemer Academy and Banks Academy have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 0-2-0 record against the Jets. They last met in 2022 with Banks Academy winning by a score of 21-9.
