 2023 Preview 


       Ashville finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Ashville finished sixth in Class 4A region six with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Bulldogs have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2005 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Bulldogs last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Ashville averaged scoring just 13.0 points a game.

       Since 2010, the Ashville football program has struggled with a record of 41-89.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Ashville has managed to compile a record of 103-153. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 4A and 284th in the AHSAA.




       The Bulldogs will be under the direction of new head football coach Kirakias Shepard as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Shepard comes to Ashville after being a co-defensive coordinator at Pell City in 2022. He spent three years at St. Clair County as a defensive coordinator.

       The Bulldogs will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. After just 2 wins last year, Ashville will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

       The Bulldogs open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent St. Clair County on Thursday, August 24 at St. Clair Stadium. Last year the St. Clair County Fighting Saints finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 5A region six. The Fighting Saints closed out the regular season with a loss to Dora by a score of 34-14.

       Ashville and St. Clair County have met a total of 48 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 28-20-0 record against the Fighting Saints. They last met in 2022 with Ashville winning by a score of 26-21.

       Ashville lost 4A All-State  punter Greyson Simpson to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Parrish scored a record 77 points in a playoff game against Cedar Bluff in 2001. The Tornados were shutout the following week 19-0 by Courtland.
