2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Saks completed the 2021 season with a 12-2 record. Last year Saks captured the region five title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-1 record. Saks made a nice playoff run in 2021, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Piedmont team by the score of 52-44. Over the past two seasons the Wildcats have gone 21-6 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Saks has gone a combined 104-37. Their 73.8% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 3A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Saks has managed to compile a record of 160-118. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 3A and 114th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Jonathan Miller who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 93-28 over the past ten seasons at Saks. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Miller. Coach Miller's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 93-28 (76.9%). If Saks can win seven games this season, Coach Miller will reach the 100 win milestone. The Saks Wildcats will play in Class 3A region four during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 3A but move from region five over to region four. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Wildcats enter the 2022 season having won 6 straight region games. The Wildcats should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Wildcats are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Wildcats open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Ohatchee on Friday, August 19 at Jack Stewart Field. Last year the Ohatchee Indians finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 3A region five. The Indians lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Winfield by a score of 56-27. Saks and Ohatchee have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 3-6-0 record against the Indians. They last met in 2021 with Saks winning by a score of 16-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
