Helena completed the 2021 season with a 9-2 record. Last year Helena captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Helena's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Baldwin County by a score of 32-29. No team at Helena ever won more games in a season than the nine victories last year. Helena is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only eight seasons. They have managed a record of 47-40 over the past eight years. The Huskies are led by head coach Richie Busby who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 29-15 over the past four seasons at Helena. Under his direction the Huskies have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Busby. Coach Busby's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 69-32 (68.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Busby's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won four region championships. The Helena Huskies will play in Class 6A region three during the 2022 season. The Huskies enter the 2022 season having won 6 straight region games. The Huskies should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Huskies open the 2022 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Chelsea on Thursday, August 18 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Chelsea Hornets finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 6A region five. The Hornets lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Oxford by a score of 30-20. Helena and Chelsea have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Huskies have a 5-5-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2021 with Helena winning by a score of 27-14. Helena returns 6A All-State Junior running back Jordan Washington.
