 2022 Preview 


       Sparta Academy completed the 2021 season with a 9-2 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class A region two, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Last year Sparta Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Lowndes Academy team by the score of 35-20.

       The Warriors won as many games as in any season since 1997.

       Since 2010, Sparta Academy has gone a combined 49-79. Their 38.3% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sparta Academy has managed to compile a record of 101-161. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class A and 27th in the AISA.




       The Warriors are led by head coach Arlton Hudson who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-13 over the past three seasons at Sparta Academy. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hudson.

       Coach Hudson's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-three season stands at 135-113 (54.4%). His 135 wins rank 6th among active coaches in the AISA. Over the course of his career, Coach Hudson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won four region championships.

       The Sparta Academy Warriors will play in Class A region two during the 2022 season.

       The Warriors should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Warriors open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Monroe Academy on Friday, August 26 at Stuart McGehee Field. Last year the Monroe Academy Volunteers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class AAA region two. The Volunteers closed out the regular season with a loss to Pike Liberal Arts by a score of 62-6.

       Sparta Academy and Monroe Academy have met a total of 25 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 6-19-0 record against the Volunteers. They last met in 2021 with Sparta Academy winning by a score of 30-20.
