Monroe Academy finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Monroe Academy took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2006. The Volunteers lost as many games as in any season since 2006. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Monroe Academy has gone a combined 125-25. Their 83.3% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AAA over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Monroe Academy has gone a combined 214-81. Their 72.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class AAA and 3rd in the AISA. The Volunteers are led by head coach Mitchell Tuberville who is entering his seventeenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 154-41 over the past sixteen seasons at Monroe Academy. Under his direction the Volunteers have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times. They have won eleven region crowns with Coach Tuberville. Coach Tuberville has won four state championships at Monroe Academy, the last coming in 2018. Coach Tuberville's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 154-41 (79.0%). His 154 wins rank 5th among active coaches in the AISA. The Monroe Academy Volunteers will play in Class AAA region one during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Volunteers remain in AAA but move from region two over to region one. Monroe Academy will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Monroe Academy has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Volunteers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. Monroe Academy came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Volunteers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Jackson Academy on Friday, August 19 at McCorquodale Stadium. Last year the Jackson Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class A region two. The Eagles lost in the Class A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Lowndes Academy. They final score was 21-6 in Troy. Monroe Academy and Jackson Academy have met a total of 26 times on the football field. The Volunteers have a 18-8-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2017 with Monroe Academy winning by a score of 47-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
