 2022 Preview

Escambia Academy completed the 2021 season with a 11-2 record. With their 3-1 region record and a second place finish in Class AA region two, the Cougars earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Last year the Escambia Academy Cougars reached the AISA-AA State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Autauga Academy in the State Championship game 52-35 in Troy.

Over the past two seasons the Cougars have gone 21-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Escambia Academy has gone a combined 106-43. Their 71.1% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AA over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Escambia Academy has managed to compile a record of 161-125. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class AA and 14th in the AISA. Their last losing season was 2010.

The Cougars will be under the direction of new head football coach Brandon Wilcox as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Wilcox was the head football coach at W.S. Neal last season.

Coach Wilcox's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 38-40 (48.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Wilcox's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

The Escambia Academy Cougars will play in Class AA region two during the 2022 season.

Escambia Academy enters the 2022 season with a string of 12 consecutive wins on their home field at Bachelor Field.

The Cougars should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Cougars have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2010 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Cougars open the 2022 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Thomas Heyward SC on Friday, August 26 at SECIS Classic.

This will be the first meeting between Escambia Academy and Thomas Heyward SC on the football field.
