2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Douglas completed the 2021 season with a 6-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region seven, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Douglas's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Pleasant Grove by a score of 55-0. The Eagles improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2014. The Eagles won as many games as in any season since 1998. It marked the first time since the 1998 season that the Eagles qualified for the playoffs. The Eagles have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. Since 2010, the Douglas football program has struggled with a record of 33-88. Over the past 25 seasons, Douglas has not won much with a record of 61-191. Their 24.0% winning percentage ranks 56th in Class 5A and 375th in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. The Eagles are led by head coach Brandon Lyles who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 9-12 over the past two seasons at Douglas. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lyles. Coach Lyles' overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 9-12 (42.9%). The Douglas Eagles will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2022 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. Unfortunately, Douglas finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. The Eagles open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Susan Moore on Friday, August 19 at Authur Jarvis Stadium. Last year the Susan Moore Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 3A region six. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Cleveland by a score of 42-19. Douglas and Susan Moore have met a total of 17 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 7-10-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 1993 with Susan Moore winning by a score of 14-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
