 2022 Preview 


       Clarke Prep finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-9 record. With their 2-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class AAA region two, the Gators earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Clarke Prep's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Pike Liberal Arts by a score of 55-0.

       The Gators lost as many games as in any season since 1992.

       Since 2010, Clarke Prep has gone a combined 72-69. Their 51.1% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class AA over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Clarke Prep has managed to compile a record of 178-111. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class AA and 7th in the AISA.




       The Gators are led by head coach Ashley Carlisle who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-9 record in his first season at Clarke Prep. Under his direction the Gators have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Carlisle.

       Coach Carlisle's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 79-75 (51.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Carlisle's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won one region championship. Coach Carlisle won two state championships prior to arriving at Clarke Prep, the last coming in 2015 at Abbeville Christian.

       The Clarke Prep Gators will play in Class AA region two during the 2022 season. The Gators may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class AAA to AA. They will compete in region two this year.

       Region two will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. The Gators should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2009 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2022.

       The Gators open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Jackson Academy on Friday, August 26 at McCorquodale Stadium. Last year the Jackson Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class A region two. The Eagles lost in the Class A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Lowndes Academy. They final score was 21-6 in Troy.

       Clarke Prep and Jackson Academy have met a total of 52 times on the football field. The Gators have a 26-26-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2021 with Jackson Academy winning by a score of 12-0.

Foley outscored their opponents 433-6 in 1961. The Lions were named state champions by the Alabama Sports Writers Association that season.
