2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Berry finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Berry finished sixth in Class 1A region six with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Wildcats hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just two games which followed a 11-2 record in 2020. Berry was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.7 points a game. Since 2010, Berry has gone a combined 77-60. Their 56.2% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Berry has managed to compile a record of 148-127. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 1A and 148th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Hunter Mims who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Berry. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Mims. Coach Mims' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%). The Berry Wildcats will play in Class 1A region five during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 1A but move from region six over to region five. It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. After just 2 wins last year, Berry will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Wildcats open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Curry on Friday, August 26 at Travis Hudson Stadium. Last year the Curry Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 4A region five. The Yellow Jackets closed out the regular season with a loss to West Point by a score of 69-20. Berry and Curry have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 4-2-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2017 with Curry winning by a score of 25-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
