 2022 Preview

Autauga Academy completed the 2021 season with a 13-0 record. Last year Autauga Academy captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class AA playoffs. They finished region play with a 4-0 record. The Autauga Academy Generals claimed the AISA-AA State Championship by defeating Escambia Academy 52-35 in Troy.

No team at Autauga Academy ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The Generals hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Dunbar saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 2-7 record in 2020.

As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Autauga Academy has gone a combined 113-32. Their 77.9% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AAA over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Autauga Academy has gone a combined 218-78. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AAA and 2nd in the AISA. The Generals have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time.

The Generals will be under the direction of new head football coach Trey Dunbar as they enter the 2022 season.

The Autauga Academy Generals will play in Class AAA region one during the 2022 season. The Generals move up in classification to Class AAA. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. Autauga Academy will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

The Generals enter the 2022 season riding a 13 game winning streak. They have also won 10 consecutive regular season games. They have won 7 straight games on their home turf at Generals Field.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Autauga Academy has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Generals enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one of the favorites not only in their region but to play in the AISA title game in November. The Generals have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2002 and this year should be no exception.

The Generals open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Edgewood Academy on Friday, August 26 at Edgewood Stadium. Last year the Edgewood Academy Wildcats finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class AA region one. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Escambia Academy by a score of 60-7.

Autauga Academy and Edgewood Academy have met a total of 41 times on the football field. The Generals have a 29-12-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2019 with Autauga Academy winning by a score of 48-9.

Autauga Academy returns AISA All-State Senior punter John Gabehart. He was named to the first team last season. The Generals also return Senior receiver Josh Palmer. He was named to the second team.
