 2022 Preview 


       Alexandria completed the 2021 season with a 11-1 record. The Valley Cubs cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Alexandria captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Alexandria reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Parker by a score of 41-34.

       The high-scoring Alexandria offense ranked 9th in the AHSAA. They averaged 42.8 points a game.

       The Valley Cubs defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 25th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 13.2 points a game.

       Over the past two seasons the Valley Cubs have gone 22-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Alexandria has gone a combined 90-44. Their 67.2% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Alexandria has gone a combined 211-75. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 5A and 25th in the AHSAA. The Valley Cubs have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time.




       The Valley Cubs are led by head coach Todd Ginn who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 36-11 over the past four seasons at Alexandria. Under his direction the Valley Cubs have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Ginn.

       Coach Ginn's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 36-11 (76.6%).

       The Alexandria Valley Cubs will play in Class 5A region six during the 2022 season.

       The Valley Cubs enter the 2022 season riding a 10 game regular season winning streak. Alexandria has won 7 consecutive region games.

       The Valley Cubs should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Valley Cubs open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Jacksonville on Friday, August 26 at Lou Scales Stadium. Last year the Jacksonville Golden Eagles finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 4A region four. The Golden Eagles lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to American Christian by a score of 49-35.

       Alexandria and Jacksonville have met a total of 87 times on the football field. The Valley Cubs have a 52-31-4 record against the Golden Eagles. They last met in 2021 with Alexandria winning by a score of 42-6.

       Alexandria returns 5A All-State Senior athlete Antonio Ross. He was named to the second team last season. The Valley Cubs also return sophomore kicker Cleat Forrest. He was named to the second team.

Bart Starr received coaching from Kentucky great Babe Parilli his senior season at Sidney Lanier in hopes of joining Bear Bryant at Kentucky. He had to settle for Alabama.
