2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Carver completed the 2017 season with a 5-7 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region two, the Wolverines earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Carver reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Wetumpka by a score of 27-7. Carver was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wolverines want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.2 points a game. Since 2010, Carver has gone a combined 59-36. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 6A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Carver has managed to compile a record of 135-137. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 6A and 182nd in the AHSAA. The Wolverines will be under the direction of new head football coach James Thompson as they enter the 2018 season. Coach Thompson's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 31-11 (73.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Thompson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won two region championships. The Carver Wolverines will play in Class 6A region two during the 2018 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Wolverines could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. The Wolverines open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Jeff Davis on Thursday, August 23 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Jeff Davis Volunteers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 7A region two. The Volunteers lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to McGill-Toolen by a score of 35-14. Carver and Jeff Davis have met a total of 54 times on the football field. The Wolverines have a 17-37-0 record against the Volunteers. They last met in 2017 with Jeff Davis winning by a score of 23-12.
