2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Beauregard completed the 2017 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Beauregard captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Beauregard lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good St. Pauls team by a score of 52-20. Over the past two seasons the Hornets have gone 23-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Beauregard has gone a combined 79-18. Their 81.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Beauregard has managed to compile a record of 164-101. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 5A and 74th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2005. The Hornets are led by head coach Rob Carter who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 41-7 over the past four seasons at Beauregard. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Carter. Coach Carter led Beauregard to a state championship in 2016. Coach Carter's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 41-7 (85.4%). The Beauregard Hornets will play in Class 5A region two during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Hornets remain in 5A but move from region four over to region two. The Hornets have one of the toughest schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 63-37 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 5A and 20th in the AHSAA. The Hornets enter the 2018 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. They have won 6 straight games on their home turf at Hornet Stadium. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Beauregard has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Hornets should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2008 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2018. The Hornets open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Benjamin Russell on Friday, August 24 at Sportsplex. Last year the Benjamin Russell Wildcats finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 6A region three. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Saraland by a score of 35-7. Beauregard and Benjamin Russell have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 4-2-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Beauregard winning by a score of 27-7. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
