Lakeside completed the 2016 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class AA region one, the Chiefs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Last year Lakeside reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Autauga Academy team by the score of 54-0. Lakeside took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2012. The defense allowed a team record 404 points last season. Since 2010, Lakeside has gone a combined 37-38. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class AA over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lakeside has managed to compile a record of 110-153. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class AA and 31st in the AISA. Phil Anderson exits Lakeside for the second time. His overall record in four seasons with the program stands at 24-21. Jimmy King, a volunteer coach for the Chiefs will be the head football coach for the 2017 season. King will be the fourth head coach in four years for the Chiefs. The Lakeside Chiefs will play in Class AA region one during the 2017 season. The Chiefs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Chiefs open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Crenshaw Christian on Friday, August 25 at Reeves Field. Last year the Crenshaw Christian Cougars finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class A region one. The Cougars lost in the first round of the Class A playoffs to Marengo Academy by a score of 53-7. Lakeside and Crenshaw Christian have met a total of 25 times on the football field. The Chiefs have a 5-19-1 record against the Cougars. They last met in 2016 with Crenshaw Christian winning by a score of 75-34. Lakeside returns AISA All-State Senior athlete Caleb Cook.
