2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tuscaloosa County finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Tuscaloosa County finished eighth in Class 7A region three with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Tuscaloosa County took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2011. No team at Tuscaloosa County ever lost more games in a season than the ten they lost last year. The last time they lost as many was back in 1975. The Wildcats hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they did not win a game which followed a 6-6 record in 2014. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Tuscaloosa County averaged scoring just 8.2 points a game. Since 2010, Tuscaloosa County has gone a combined 35-32. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 7A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Tuscaloosa County has managed to compile a record of 183-104. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 7A and 63rd in the AHSAA. The Wildcats have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time. Lee Gibson resigned in February after seven seasons as the head football coach at Tuscaloosa County High. His teams finished a combined 42-36 but faltered in 2015 with an 0-10 record. His teams did not win a region title during his tenure and managed just a 2-6 record in the postseason. Bart Sessions takes over the head coaching duties at Tuscaloosa County in 2016. He has served as the defensive coordinator at Spain Park the past two seasons. He was the head coach at McGill-Toolen from 2011-13 with a record of 34-5. His last team reached the semi-finals of the playoffs before falling to Auburn. Prior to arriving in Mobile, Sessions served as an assistant coach for Prattville during their championship run. Coach Sessions' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 34-5 (87.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sessions' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won two region championships. The Tuscaloosa County Wildcats will play in Class 7A region three during the 2016 season. The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-43 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 7A and 28th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 11 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Tuscaloosa County will be to simply win some games. The Wildcats open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Paul Bryant on Friday, August 19 at Stampede Stadium. Last year the Paul Bryant Stampede finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 6A region four. Tuscaloosa County and Paul Bryant have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 10-0-0 record against the Stampede. They last met in 2009 with Tuscaloosa County winning by a score of 29-21. College prospects include: Caleb Bonner (6-1, 190) safety, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
