2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Spain Park completed the 2015 season with a 12-2 record. Last year Spain Park captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 7A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. The Jaguars won three consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 7A State Championship game in 2015 only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by McGill-Toolen at the Alabama Super Seven 14-12 in Auburn. The Jaguars won as many games as in any season since 2007. The Jaguars hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Raney saw improvement as they won twelve games following a 6-4 record in 2014. The defense was very stingy last season as Spain Park ranked 7th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 10.0 points a game. Since 2010, Spain Park has gone a combined 47-24. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 7A over the past six seasons. Over the past 14 seasons, Spain Park has managed to compile a record of 104-59. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 7A and 65th in the AHSAA. The Jaguars are led by head coach Shawn Raney who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 26-9 over the past three seasons at Spain Park. Under his direction the Jaguars have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Raney. Coach Raney's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 26-9 (74.3%). The Spain Park Jaguars will play in Class 7A region three during the 2016 season. The Jaguars enter the 2016 season riding a 9 game regular season winning streak. Spain Park has won 8 consecutive region games. They have won 9 straight games on their home turf at Spain Park Stadium at Bob Finley Field. The Jaguars should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Jaguars are making another deep run into the playoffs. Running back Larry Wooden returns for his senior season after rushing for 895 yards and 7 touchdowns as a junior last year. The Jaguars open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Gadsden City on Friday, August 19 at Titan Stadium. Last year the Gadsden City Titans finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 7A region four. Spain Park and Gadsden City have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 3-3-0 record against the Titans. They last met in 2009 with Gadsden City winning by a score of 49-32. Spain Park returns 7A All-State Senior running back Larry Wooden. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. College prospects include: Larry Wooden (6-0, 187) running back, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
