2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Oak Mountain completed the 2015 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Oak Mountain just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 7A region three with a 3-4 region record. The Eagles hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just five games which followed a 10-2 record in 2014. Since 2010, Oak Mountain has gone a combined 30-33. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 7A over the past six seasons. Over the past 17 seasons, Oak Mountain has managed to compile a record of 82-95. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 7A and 224th in the AHSAA. The Eagles are led by head coach Cris Bell who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 26-17 over the past four seasons at Oak Mountain. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bell. Coach Bell's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 26-17 (60.5%). The Oak Mountain Eagles will play in Class 7A region three during the 2016 season. The Eagles will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season. Oak Mountain came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Eagles open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Chelsea on Friday, August 19 at Heardmont Park Sportsplex/Eagle Stadium. Last year the Chelsea Hornets finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 6A region three. The Hornets lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Blount by a score of 41-28. Oak Mountain and Chelsea have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 9-3-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2013 with Oak Mountain winning by a score of 31-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
