Montgomery Academy completed the 2015 season with a 9-2 record. Last year Montgomery Academy captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Montgomery Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hillcrest Evergreen by a score of 35-7. The defense was very stingy last season as Montgomery Academy ranked 32nd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.1 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Eagles have gone 21-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Montgomery Academy has gone a combined 39-28. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 3A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Montgomery Academy has managed to compile a record of 170-115. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 3A and 88th in the AHSAA. Anthony McCall stepped down as the head football coach at Montgomery Academy in January. His five seasons at the school produced a 39-18 record and playoff appearances in his last three seasons. His last three squads went 28-2 in the regular season and 18-1 in region play with the last two winning region crowns. His 2014 team finished with twelve wins which trail only the fourteen victories during the 1987 state championship season. He has served as the head basketball coach at Montgomery Academy the past seventeen seasons. He is also the athletic director at the school. Gary Nelson took over the coaching duties following the resignation of Anthony McCall. he has served as an assistant football coach at the school. The Montgomery Academy Eagles will play in Class 3A region three during the 2016 season. The Eagles enter the 2016 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. Montgomery Academy has won 16 consecutive region games. The Eagles should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The defense will be led by senior linebacker Jud Blount who registered 121 tackles last season. Running back Keefe White returns for his junior season after rushing for 589 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2015. The Eagles open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Elmore County on Friday, August 19 at Burt-Haynie Field. Last year the Elmore County Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 4A region three. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Tallassee by a score of 28-21 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Montgomery Academy and Elmore County have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 3-1-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 1999 with Montgomery Academy winning by a score of 24-21. Montgomery Academy returns 3A All-State Senior linebacker Jud Blount.
