 2016 Preview

Geneva completed the 2015 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Geneva just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region one with a 2-4 region record.

Since 2010, Geneva has gone a combined 22-39. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Geneva has managed to compile a record of 143-124. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 3A and 148th in the AHSAA.

The Panthers are led by head coach Les Sanders who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Geneva. The Panthers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sanders.

Coach Sanders' overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 44-26 (62.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sanders' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won one region championship.

The Geneva Panthers will play in Class 3A region two during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 3A but move from region one over to region two. The Panthers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 62-36 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 3A and 20th in the AHSAA. Geneva will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season.

The Panthers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent McKenzie on Friday, August 26 at Williams-Vickery Field. Last year the McKenzie Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in third place in Class 1A region two. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Linden by a score of 38-28.

Geneva and McKenzie have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 1-1-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in with

Geneva returns 3A All-State Senior offensive lineman Kade McLaney. He was named to the first team last season.
