2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Catholic completed the 2015 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Catholic just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region two with a 2-5 region record. The Knights have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2008 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Knights last playoff victory came during the 1989 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, the Catholic football program has struggled with a record of 17-42. Over the past 25 seasons, Catholic has managed to compile a record of 90-161. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 4A and 313rd in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2008. The Knights are led by head coach Aubrey Blackwell who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Catholic. The Knights saw improvement from a 3-6 record the season before coach Blackwell arrived. The Knights have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Blackwell. Coach Blackwell's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 4-6 (40.0%). The Catholic Knights will play in Class 4A region two during the 2016 season. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Knights will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season. Catholic has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2008 but hope to return to the post season this year. Landon Prichett returns after catching 22 passes for 713 yards and 7 touchdowns as a sophomore last year. The Knights open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Central Coosa on Friday, August 19 at Catholic Field. Last year the Central Coosa Cougars finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 3A region three. The Cougars lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to T.R. Miller by a score of 67-16. Catholic and Central Coosa have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Knights have a 2-0-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in with Catholic returns 4A All-State Senior offensive lineman Brian Anderson. He was named to the second team last season. College prospects include: Brian Anderson (6-3, 281) offensive guard, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
