The Blount Leopards came up short in defending their state title but did accomplish something no other team had done all season. They scored a rushing touchdown against the Gadsden defense. In the third quarter Gadsden running back Jimmy Williams, who rushed for 107 yards on 31 carries, scored on a 12 yard run to make the score 17-7 in favor of the visitors.
They later added a field goal to seal the victory. It was Gadsden's second state championship as they also claimed the 1986 title. Blount was led by Farley Love at quarterback. He completed 8 of 22 passes for 153 yards but suffered three interceptions.
Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
