Game: Played Friday December 5, 1986 at Murphree Stadium, Gadsden

Summary:
Bobby Avery scored Gadsden's lone touchdown on a 40 yard run and Gerry Benson kicked two field goals for all the points Gadsden would need to defeat Homewood 13-7. Gadsden, 9-5, began its season with a 1-5 record, but the Tigers won their last three regular season games to qualify for the playoffs and continued the winning streak all the way through the championship game.
Benson kicked a 30 yard field goal to give the Tigers an early 3-0 lead with 7:55 remaining in the first quarter. Avery's 40 yard run in the second quarter upped the lead to 10-0 at halftime. Homewood would come back in the third quarter with a 39 yard pass from Doug Gann to John Dorough with 3:29 remaining in the period. Benson's second field goal of 24 yards with 9:14 left in the game would clinch the win for the Tigers and provide the final margin.
It was Homewood's first trip back to the championship game since they won a title in 1974.
