Summary:
             
After a scoreless opening quarter the Hazlewood Golden Bears exploded for 20 second quarter points and coasted to a 28-0 victory over McKenzie to lay claim to the 1981 1A state championship. The title is the second 1A championship for Hazlewood after also winning one in 2A in 1975.
              It was the second consecutive loss at home in the championship game for McKenzie as they lost last year to Akron.

Homewood defeated Benjamin Russell in five overtimes during the Class 5A Super Six state championship game in 2000.
