Millport coach Jack Hankins entered the 1984 season with high hopes for the season. Last year's team won the Class 1A state championship and this year's squad returned all but four players. Millport was ranked as the No. 1 team so the sportswriters also believed the Junior Tide should contend for the title.            Under the new six classification alignment by the AHSAA, Millport resided in Class 2A Area 9. With 28 returning lettermen, Millport seemed to be the favorite in Class 2A. Senior quarterback Danny Brock was back and would be looked to as the leader of the team both on offense and defense. Last year he ran for nearly 800 yards with 13 touchdowns and passed for 650 yards and another seven scores.

Quarterback Danny Brock scored the game winning touchdown with 9:52 remaining in the game as Millport opened the 1984 season with a 7-0 win over Lamar County. Daniel Gardner led all runners with 89 yards on 11 carries. The winning drive covered 67 yards and took eleven plays to decide the outcome of the contest.

Millport 14   18   8   0   40     Akron 0   0   0   6   6

The Junior Tide built a 32-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 40-6 win over Akron in the second week of the season. Danny Brock and Kenny Pollard hooked up for three touchdown passes in the game. Brock completed 7-of-10 passes for 178 yards and four touchdowns. The scoring passes to Pollard covered 21, 62 and 32 yards.           Brock ran for another score and Gardner added another touchdown as the Junior Tide ran their record to 2-0 on the season.

New Hope MS 0   7   7   0   14     Millport 7   13   8   15   43

Danny Brock threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more as the Junior Tide rolled over New Hope MS 43-14 in week three. Brock hooked up with Darrell Bridges for two of the scoring passes that covered 76 and 15 yards. The other touchdown pass went to Pollard on a 60-yard bomb.            The offense rolled up a total of 356 yards as they scored in each quarter of the contest. Brock finished with 100 yards rushing and 222 passing while Bridges caught four passes for 120 yards. The defense contributed with four fumble recoveries and intercepted three passes.

Carrollton 0   6   0   0   6     Millport 0   28   7   7   42

After a scoreless first quarter, Millport exploded for 28 second quarter points on their way to a 42-6 blowout of Carrollton. Quarterback Danny Brock tossed another three touchdown passes, two to Pollard and another to Lee Leonard. The only score by Carrollton came on a kickoff return following the first touchdown of the evening.           Senior quarterback Danny Brock rushed for 121 yards on 10 carries to lead all ground gainers. The defense limited Carrollton to 129 yards rushing and zero passing.

Millport 7   13   8   7   35     Kennedy 0   0   0   0   0

Millport outmanned Kennedy 35-0 in week five of the season. The defense held Kennedy to 40 yards rushing and a total of 61 yards. The balance offense gained 152 yards rushing and 151 through the air.            Danny Brock led the Junior Tide to their 22nd win in a row with a touchdown pass and another score via the ground. Darrell Bridges added a touchdown on a 67-yard punt return to give Millport a 20-0 halftime lead.

Pickens County 0   8   0   0   8     Millport 7   0   0   21   28

Once again, Danny Brock led the way with 172 yards rushing on nine carries and scored three touchdowns. His first score came on a 69-yard run on the second play from scrimmage. He added a three-yard touchdown before returning an interception 11 yards for another score. Daniel Gardner also scored on a one-yard run for the final score of the evening.

Northside 0   0   0   0   0     Millport 14   14   14   0   42

The defense held Northside to 100 yards of total offense as Millport won their 24th consecutive game and seventh of the season. The Junior Tide shutout Northside 42-0 behind quarterback Danny Brock and his four touchdown passes.           Brock completed 11-of-14 passes for 233 yards and ran for 46 yards on only eight carries. he also scored one rushing touchdown on a 1-yard run in the third quarter. Kenny Pollard and Lee Leonard each caught a pair of touchdown passes in the contest. Pollard finished with four catches for 128 yards.

Millport 7   19   0   8   34     Marion County 0   12   0   0   12

The top ranked Junior Tide rolled over Marion County 34-12 to clinch the Class 2A Area 9 championship and a spot in the upcoming playoffs. Danny Brock tossed two touchdown passes, one to Pollard and another to Bridges, and scored on a 10-yard fumble return to lead the Junior Tide to their 25th win in a row.            Marion County (6-2) matched Millport touchdown for touchdown for a while but Brock's fumble return just before halftime gave Millport a 20-12 lead that they never relinquished.

Fayette County 7   8   0   0   15     Millport 7   8   12   2   29

Quarterback Danny Brock tossed three touchdown passes to Darrell Bridges of 7, 5 and 7 yards and scored another on a 1-yard run as the Junior Tide rolled past Fayette County 29-15 for the eighth win of the season. Millport racked up 339 yards of offense while holding the Tigers to just 39 yards rushing and 129 total yards.           The two teams were tied at the half 15-15 before Brock threw two scoring passes to Bridges on their first two possessions of the third period for the difference in the game. Millport added a late safety when the Tigers fumbled the football out of the end zone.

Millport 13   22   7   0   42     Parrish 0   0   0   0   0

Millport had little trouble with Parrish as they scored 35 first half points and cruised to their tenth win of the season. The Junior Tide closed out their second consecutive 10-0 regular season and third in the past five years.           Danny Brock was once again the star as he tossed scoring passes of 73 yards to Kenny Pollard, 37 yards to Darrell Bridges and 33 yards to Lee Leonard. Curtis Davis raced 79 yards for another score and Gardner added the final touchdown of the game on a 7-yard scamper. Brock accounted for 139 yards of offense in the contest.

Calera 0   7   0   0   7     Millport 6   3   6   0   15

Millport opened the playoffs with a hard fought 15-7 win over Calera at home. Brock threw for 133 yards and ran for another 65 to lead the undefeated Junior Tide. He scored on a 18-yard run in the third to give the Millport the final 15-7 margin. Jimmy Dawkins got things going by recovering an errant pitchout in the end zone for a touchdown an an early 6-0 lead.           After Calera took a 7-6 lead, Dale Brock kicked a 37-yard field goal as Millport led 9-7 at the half. The win was the 28th consecutive for Millport and 12th of the season.

Millport 13   15   8   6   42     Marion County 0   6   0   0   6

In a rematch of a midseason game, Millport once again disposed of Marion County 42-6 to advance to the third round of the playoffs with a 42-6 win. Millport built a 28-6 halftime lead and coasted to the victory. Danny Brock scored on runs of 72, 18 and 1 to lead the offense as they rolled up 232 yards on the ground and a total of 321.           The defense produced four turnovers and kept Marion County at bay most of the game. Billy Conner scored the final touchdown of the game with four second left when he returned an interception 60-yards for a score and a 42-6 lead.

Ohatchee 0   0   6   14   20     Millport 6   16   20   6   48

Millport led 22-0 at the half on their way to a 48-20 win over Ohatchee in the quarter-finals of the state playoffs. The offense, led by senior quarterback Danny Brock rolled up 439 yards of offense and led 42-6 after three quarters of play.           Brock was once again the star as he threw scoring passes of 46 and 3 yards to Kenny Pollard, rushed for two more touchdowns and returned a fumble 52 yards for his fifth score of the night. The win was the 30th in a row for Millport.

Courtland 0   0   0   0   0     Millport 0   0   15   0   15

Millport registered their fifth shutout of the season as they defeated Courtland 15-0 in the semi-finals of the playoffs. After a scoreless first half of play, the Junior Tide got points from their special teams when James Hosford blocked a punt out of the end zone for a 2-0 lead.           The play ignited a struggling offense enough as Danny Brock tossed a six-yard scoring pass to Curtis Davis a few minutes later and Davis scored on a 3-yard run for a 15-0 lead. All the scoring came in the third period of the game. The defense intercepted six Courtland passes to keep the Chiefs out of the end zone all night.

Millport 7   0   0   10   17     Reeltown 0   8   6   0   14

Millport won their second consecutive state championship with a come from behind 17-14 win over Reeltown in the Class 2A title game. The win also extended their winning streak to 32 games.           Millport scored first on a 47-yard pass from Danny Brock to Kenny Pollard for a 7-0 first quarter lead. Reeltown came back to take a 8-7 halftime lead and added a third quarter touchdown to extend the lead to 14-7. The Millport defense registered a safety when a Rebel running back was tackled in the end zone to cut the lead to 14-9.            Following the safety, Millport took over on the 41-yard line after the free kick with 6:46 left in the game and needing to go 59 yards to win the game. Danny Brock scored the game winning touchdown on a one-yard run with just 30 seconds left on a fourth down quarterback sneak. The play gave the Junior Tide a 15-14 lead and the state championship. Brock threw to Darrell Bridges for the two point conversion and Millport led 17-14.           Millport High School closed following the 1985 season along with Kennedy and formed South Lamar High School. Forever the Junior Tide will go down in history as never having lost a playoff game as they went 9-0 in the only two years they qualified for the playoffs.           Named to the first team all-state squad were quarterback Danny Brock for the second year in a row. He was joined by receiver Kenny Pollard. Jeff McKee made the honorable mention squad along with receiver Andre Pollard. Coach Jack Hankins was selected as the coach of the year by the ASWA.
