The Sylacauga Aggies and the Talladega Tigers have met 103 times on the
football field. Only a handful of teams have played more games against the
same opponent in the state in the history of high school football.
While Sylacauga leads the
series 57-42-4, that was not always the case. As a matter of fact, following
the 1995 season the Aggies only led 37-35-4 before winning twenty of the last
twenty-seven contests. They won the last eleven games played through the
2021 season.
The series has been on pause since the two squads have not met on the
gridiron since 2021.
The two teams first met
in 1910 for a couple of games with Talladega coming away with shutout
victories in both games. The two played
against each other every year since 1920 except the 1935, 1936 and 1937
seasons.
One of the wildest games
in the series was also one of the biggest upsets. Talladega won a single
games that season. It just happened to be against a Sylacauga squad that
finished the season 7-4. The score of the game was 30-29 in favor of the
hometown Tigers. Between 2006-2009, the Tigers won three games in four
years. Two of those wins were against Sylacauga.
In 1941, Talladega
spoiled Sylacauga's undefeated season with a 13-6 victory. The very next
season they accomplished the same feat by knocking off the Aggies 6-0.
