The 1957 Cottonwood Bears were chosen Class A State Champions by the Birmingham News from District 1.
Cottonwood completed the 1957 season with a perfect 10-0 record. They defeated Samson 20-19 in Dothan's Peanut Bowl to cap off an unblemished year.
The Bears were led by R.Q. Taylor who scored 104 points during the season. Other high scorers included Bud Sellers and Bobby Harrison. Along the line, the BEars were led by Dorman Whitehead, Carl Guy, Billy Cameron and Eulan Holland.

Morris Higginbotham coached three different teams to divisional state championships in the 1950s. He won titles at Walnut Grove in 1952, West Blocton in 1955 and Enterprise in 1960.
