 2022 Predictions

It could be a wild year in 4A. Defending champion Vigor's jumps to 5A leaves this class wide open. But that does not mean it will be an easy path to the Super Seven in Auburn. Three of our top five teams were not in 4A last season which could produce some interesting results as the season progresses.

Catholic Montgomery was the team to beat all last year in 3A until the semi-finals when they fell to Montgomery Academy. But with a star cast of returning skilled position players the Knights will be back in the hunt even after moving up in classification. QB Caleb McCreary and RB Jeremiah Cobb will lead the way for the Knights in 2022.

Andalusia has been very competitive in 5A the past two seasons and once again it looks good for the Bulldogs as the defense will be tough for every opponent. Jacksonville could well be the cinderella squad this year as Jim Ogle will return to lead the Golden Eagles at quarterback.

T.R. Miller, Oneonta and American Christian will have a say in the playoffs just as they have for the past few seasons. A sleeper team in 4A could be the Anniston Bulldogs who return enough talent to be a threat this season.

There will be little debate about the toughest region in 4A as region two has three teams capable of winning it all this season. Andalusia, Catholic and Montgomery Academy all reached the semi-finals last season. On the opposite end, region five had two teams finish with a winning record in 2021 but overall the region should be much improved this season.

This is somewhat of a surprise. I doubt many fans would have guessed Jackson as the winningest team in 4A over the past twelve seasons. But here are the Aggies leading the way with 115 wins and a state championship in 2011.
