2014 Class 2A Coaching Changes

Region 1

Mobile Christian - Neil Evans leaves the Mobile private school after three successful seasons. His squads went 23-14 and all three reached the playoffs. Tommy Wasden once again takes over the reins at Mobile Christian having served as the head coach from 2006-2010 with a 24-30 record in five seasons. His overall record in thirteen seasons stands at 57-81 at Goshen (1992-95), Pike County (1996-98) and Meadowview Christian (1999-2000).

Sweet Water - In a surprising move Stacy Luker resigned as the head coach of the Bulldogs. His twelve Bulldog teams went 131-32. All qualified for a playoff spot and five won state championships. He took the head coaching position at Neshoba Central high school in Philadelphia MS. Pat Thompson (42) hopes to carry on the winning tradition at Sweet Water as he takes over the football program this fall. He has served as the defensive coordinator the past seven seasons under Coach Luker. He was also an assistant at Thomasville for ten years.



Region 2

Samson - Robert Bradford leaves Samson after a couple of 6-5 seasons and first round losses in the playoffs. Greg Ennis takes over the head coaching duties at Samson. He was an assistant at Geneva last year and at Carroll in 2011. He was at Opp from 2006-10 after serving as the head football coach at Georgiana for one year in 2005. His team finished with a 4-6 record.

Ariton - Julius Head stepped down for the third time at Ariton high school. His last two teams finished with a 7-13 record. His overall record at Ariton was 99-39 in a dozen seasons. Defensive coordinator Floyd Graham was promoted to the head coaching position shortly after the resignation of Coach Head.



Region 3

Calhoun - Dewayne Williams and Hense Ellis served as the interim head coaches for the last five games of the 2013 season. Hense Ellis takes sole possession of the program this fall. It is his first stint as a head football coach.

New Brockton - Jim Bob Striplin resigned after six seasons at the school with a record of 31-33 record. All but one of his teams qualified for the playoffs. His teams finished a combined 31-13. Justin Jones was named as the new head football coach in February. Coach Jones was the head coach at Florala in 2011-2012 with a 8-12 mark. He spent last season as an assistant at Enterprise where he graduated in 2000.



Region 4

Pickens County - Patrick Plott resigned his position at Pickens County to accept the head coaching position at Greenville. His last three teams at Pickens County went 27-5 with the last winning a championship last season. Nick Roberson will take over the football program this season. He was the defensive coordinator for the Tornados last year. Roberson is from Flomaton and graduated from Troy in 2001. He coached at Escambia County and Holt for six years before moving to Pickens County.

Francis Marion - Javaris Jones leaves Francis Marion after seven seasons at the school. His overall record was 13-47. He is replaced by Blake Thompson who will assume the head coaching duties this fall.

Holy Spirit - Greg Kosloff leaves Holy Spirit after back-to-back 1-9 seasons at the school. Jamie Griffin takes over the head coaching duties this fall. His only head coaching assignment came with West Blocton in 1990 where the team finished with a 6-4 mark. He also served as an assistant and teacher at Tuscaloosa County for 24 years.



Region 5

LaFayette - Dialleo Burks, a LaGrage GA graduate, resigned to return to his old school as the head football coach. His only season at LaFayette produced a 2-8 record. James Lucas moves over from Notasulga after a four year stint with the school. He was there for four seasons where his teams finished a combined 22-22 with three playoff spots.

Woodland - Larry Strain leaves Woodland after 15 seasons at the school with a record of 100-78. His last ten teams reached the playoffs. Randy Boyd takes over the head football coaching duties this fall. He served as an assistant at Woodland the past five seasons.



Region 6

Southeastern - Drew Barnett leaves Southeastern after a single campaign with a 1-8 record. Michael Burkett took over the football program after being approve in March. He is an alum of Mortimer Jordan and West Alabama. Burkett will enjoy his first stint as a head coach this fall after a season at Gardendale as an assistant coach. He was at Canton Academy in Mississippi from 2006-2011.



Region 7

West End Walnut Grove - Randy Hallmark leaves West End after two years as the head football coach. His record was 1-19 over the past two seasons. Kyle Davis will take over the program this fall after serving as an assistant at Pensacola high school in Florida. He is a native of Alexandria.



Region 8

Mars Hill - Jared Mills was hired to build a football program in the school

Red Bay - John Ritter leaves Red Bay after two years with a record of 16-7 and a couple of playoff spots. Michael Jackson takes over the helm at Red Bay after serving as the head football coach at Russellville the past three years. His teams went 18-15 which was not up to Russellville standards. He was also the head coach at Buckhorn from 2002-2010 with a 53-47 mark. Jackson also served as an assistant at Russellville from 1993-2002.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1925 Langdale tied a record by defeating Milltown 125-0. Hamilton had set the record by thrashing Fayette 125-0 in 1915.
